How do companies like Royal Doulton determine what their consumers like and dislike?
They ask the customer. This week Royal Doulton brought their china survey to Clinton.
The marketing urvey asked consumers to rate styles, colors, shapes, sizes and
materials used in plates, cups and saucers. Wesley Willis Church sponsored the survey
and earned $2 for each person who took part in the survey.. Here Pat and Marci
Schoenhals of Clinton try to decide between the dozens of choices. (Shelley McPhee

Junior Farmers is not just for farmers. It
is for young people 15 to 29 years old who
want to participate in a social service club.
The Junior Farmer motto is "Self Help
and Community Betterment", and
members strive to provide leadership skills
to young people so they may become a par-
ticipating part of the growing community.
To be affiliated with the Junior Farmers,
the clubs are required to report on at least
one community betterment project, have a
meeting on Junior Farmer structure and on
parliamentary procedure. This year the
Clinton club has donated money to the Clin-
ton Hospital Equipment Fund and with the
county association they adopted a foster
child.
There are five Junior Farmer Clubs in
Huron County - Clinton, West Huron, South
Huron, Seaforth and Howick.
Clubs in Huron are part of the Zone 7 area
•which also includes clubs in the counties of
Perth, Grey and Bruce.
Head offices for the Ontario Junior
Farmer Association are situated in Guelph.
Parliamentary procedure is the organized
form of operating a meeting. An idea is ex-
pressed in the form of a .motion. It must
have some interest and be seconded or it is
dropped. If the motion • is seconded it is
discussed and voted on by a majority to ac-
cept or reject the idea.
If meetings were not carried out in some
formal manner, there would be much confu-
sion and pointless length, leading to endless
discussion. There is much more to
parliamentary procedure and sometimes
you might think it is pointless to know these
facts but it is important 'as in-service clubs;
Lions, Kinsmen, Optimists,- student body
representatives in council, professional
conferences doctors, nurses teachers and
churches, - factories in management and
unions, - federation of agriculture and all
businesses.
Although you may join .a'Junior .Farmer
club any time, there are two times a year a
person may join the provincial organization,
in October and April.
• Why join and what's in it for me? First of
all, you will only get out of it what you put
in! If you just go to one meeting and it seems
boring and you never return you have not
given yourself a fair chance. Junior
Farmers have almost anything you want
because you direct your interests to the ex-.
.ecutives and they work for you.
They have dances, mainly for fund raising
and operating, expenses,. There are province
wide sporting' events; winter and summer.
Track and field, shotput, discus, baseball,
swimming, Soccer, tennis, and farm safety

nity to learn and serve
competition, curling, bowling, volleyball.,
basketball and badminton. There is county
operated broomball, hockey and two -pitch
baseball tournaments and car rallys.
There are Cultural Events, Sing Swing in.-
eludes
n-eludes male and female soloists, old time
and modern square dancing, tap dancing,
choir, barbershop quartet, female and folk
singing and whistling competitions. There
are competitions in short plays, public
speaking and debating.
A provincial conference is held each year
in March, giving direction to the provincial
organization. The constitution isgiven new
resolutions and changes are made, with new '
executive members being voted in.
Throughout the year there are con-
ferences ranging from leadership camp,
communication and executive workshops to
social recreation.
There is a great opportunity to travel and
host delegates from other countries. Yearly
trips range from six months spent in
Australia/New Zealand, six weeks in the
United IcingdQm (Wakes, Ireland, Scotland
and England), one month in Germany,
Holland or Russia, two weeks in Manitoba,
Alberta or P.E.I., one week in Washington
for the Future Farmers of America, and one
delegate may attend the World Congress.
Thee trips are mostly funded by the
Junior Farmers so costs are minimal but
the winners have to earn the opportunity to,
represent the Province in these travels.
Huron County has „had trips to Australia
and New Zealand, Barbados., Caribbean.
Cruise, and is planning a European ex-
change.
The most valuable part of Junior Farmers
is meeting people with whom you may grow,
work, and develop a great friendship with.
These are some of the possibilities that
are open to you as a Junior Farmer. It's all
up to you, what .you get out of it, the oppor-
tunity is here so get in gear!
Clinton's meeting is October 7, 8 p.m. at
the Clinton agricultural office (beside the
Kuenzig Food Market ).
