The Silver Tops met at the Community Hall Sept. 13 at 10 a.m. with 10 present. Mur- ray Cardiff M.P. of Huron and Bruce presented a cheque from New Horizon Grant, sum of $7,772 to the president Orval McPhee and Secretary Treasurer Marian Haggitt. This grant came from the Department of Health and Welfare. The money is to- be spent on hall repairs, curtains, chairs, and carpet. The Secretary Treasurer Marian Haggitt stated there were 50 members in the, Silver Tops. The vice president Donald Haines opened the meeting. A motion.was made to send a $50 cheque to Toronto Tree Planting Fund run by the On- tario Horticultural Society to assist with replanting of trees in areas greatly affected by tornados. Winterizing of tite fountain at the Man- chester Garden and the hanging baskets were discussed. ' A quiz on garden seeds was conducted by Lois Haines. UNIT I Unit I of U.C.W. was held at Knox United Church with Bernice Anderson and Beth Lansing in charge. Marjorie McDougall was pianist. Bernice read a poem "I Had The Wor- ries", B,eth Lansing read a reading on "Wor- ries" and Bernice read a poem. Laura Mae Chamney sang a solo. The general meeting will be held at' the church Sept. 25 at 8 p.m. with speaker from Friendship House in Goderich. :Unit II of the UCW was held at the home of Jean Plaetzer. Mrs. - Emerson Rodger was pianist. Laura Mae Chamney, Ethel Ball and Jean Plaetzer were in charge of the meeting. Laura Mae gave a reading and Ethel Ball showed slides on her trip to the Dominican Republic and Auburn 125th Celebration. The September general meeting will be held Sept. 25, at the church with speaker June Taylor of Friendship House. KNOX UNITED CHURCH Organ Prelude was played by Lori Millian. Irene Milliam was pianist. The junior congregation was run by Barbara Bakker and Gail -Dobie. The minister chose for his sermon "God In Control". Offering was received by Ken Ramsey and Murray Rollinson. Offertory Hymn was sung with Anita Gross as pianist. W.M.S. The September meeting was held at the home of Marian Haggitt. The president Martha Daer welcomed everyone. Viola Raithby held the study entitled ''Sharing the Journey". The next meeting will be at .the biome of Mrs. Roy Daer. Elva Straughan returned home after spending the summer at Meaford, with daughter Annie and Mr. Robertson. We welcome her back. Derrick is the son Don and Erma Cartwright. Lorie Cartwright of Toronto spent the weekend with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Donald Cartwright and David. All kids are invited to a special "Fun Day" at Auburn Chapel on Sept. 21 at 2 p.m. with Uncle Mac, a ventriloquist and pup- peteer. There will be games, hot dogs and more.
