Ladies Club helps others
TUCKERSMITH TOWNSHIP - The
Ladies Club here recently made donations
fe five worthy causes. .
' 'At The Tuckersmith Ladies Club meeting,
held on September 17, treasurer Willy Van
Dorp reported that donations had been
Made to. the Lady Diana Nursery, the CNIB,
Family .Services and filre victini Hugh
Crawford.
As well, the club has been raising money
'f'or a young girl, Teri, through a 70/30 draw.
Teri suffers from throat' cancer.
She was present at the meeting to make
the draw and Joanne French of Mitchell
held the winning ticket.
Teri was given a cheque on behalf of the,
club and to thank the group she noted, in. a
poem, "When I could not walk, you helped
me stand. When they said, `you.can't,' you
gently said, `you. can.' When they said,
'you'll never speak,' you stood and spoke for
me. When they said, `the world is blind,' you
proved the world can see. And when they
talk of hate and war and see only the pain
and strife, you can look at me and know, you
gave the greatest gift, you gave me back my
life."
Eileen Townsend. introduced the guest
speaker, Roberta Kloss. Mrs. Kloss told how
she and her husband work as foster parents
to children 'from many different families.
She emphasized that fosters home are
desperately needed.
Young chefs learn pastry skills
Clinton I Club
The Pastry Pals held their third meeting
on September 23 at Mrs. Saundercock's. .
- Members made pastry and filling. for
meat pies and two -Coconut banana cream
pies. Lexie read about pies and their fillings,
'and roll call asked members to name a
recipe using pastry. Some answers were •
lemon pie and chocolate eclairs.
Members did a true and false quiz about
pies, ,then sampled their own pies. -press

To start the meeting members made ap-
ple and blueberry pies. They, chose Dough -
heads 'as ,'the club name, 'then came the
meeting outline. Finally the best part came,
tasting those delicious pies.
The third meeting will be held at the home
of Mrs. JoAnn Walker.

Parish Hall in the Clinton Anglican Church.
The Auxiliary is donating 31 silver dollars as
a prize to commemorate the 31st anniver-
sary of the Penny Sale. Many quality prizes
are on display, and boxes are waiting for
you to deposit your tickets.
President Joyce Chilton expressed regret
that the Auxiliary will be losing two faithful
members - Iris Montgomery, convenor of
the Gift Shop is moving to Ottawa, and Mar-
ny Walden, Chairperson of the Accredita-

birthday on September 22. ..
Margaret Coventry agreed to assist in the
Gift Shop in the absence' . of • Iris Mon-
tgomery. She presented the plans.for altera-
tions to the shop. Historian Patti Munniugs,
is taking her work seriously, and visited Dr.
Waiter and. Mrs. Oakes at their home in
Owen Sound. In talking with them, she
learned much of the history of Clinton
Public Hospital.
Membership convenor, Evelyn Holmes
reported that $912 has been received to date.

The Vanishing Card Parties brought in a'
total of $1083.88, reported Convenor Marne
Proctor. The new "Bath" for which the Aux-
iliary is paying, has been installed, and is •
beingenjoyed by all patients who use it. `
Discussion took place as to events and
celebrations that should take place on the
60th Anniversary of Clinton Public Hospital
in 1986. Anyone in the community who has
pictures, stories or other memorabilia of the
hospital, please share it, as a history is be-
ing written:
St. James celebrates the fall harvest
MIDDLETON - The congregation of St.
James An, lican Church celebrated their an-
nual S ice of Harvest Festival on
September with the Rev. Aubrey Ball of-
ficiating.
The church was decorated with flowers,
fruits from the orchards and vegetables
from the gardens.
Bill Steenstra, Rector's Warden, brought
forward a loaf ofbread and bunch of grapes
to the altar where the rector blessed them,
` as a symbol•of the bountiful harvest God has
once again provided.
Lynda Steenstra read the lessons and Ron
Greidanus played the organ. Ray Wise and
Dean Aldwinckle received the offering. '
On behalf of the congregation, Mr.
Steenstra welcomed Bill and Cheryl Tomlin-
son to the church and announced that Cheryl
was going to be in charge of the music. She
played her guitar and the congregation sang
several songs from the new song book: She
will also be assisting with the singing in Sun-
day. School.
Following the service the gifts of the
harvest were .giveh to the "Survival.
Through Friendship House" in Goderich.
On September 22, Hilda Bell was commis-
sioned into her new position as Education •
Co-ordinator at St. John the. Evangelist in
London. The St. James congregation offers
its congratulations to Hilda. She has studied
and worked hard and is most deserving of
the honor. •
Mr. Bell is attending a clergy conference
this week in Adrian, Michigan. The theme
being the New Book of Alternative Services.
This fall the congregation will be a
look at this material to see what can be used
in the parish.
