ed by BGR Stables of Blyth set a scorching
pace of 1:00 2.5 to the half, with the last
quarter in 30 seconds flat, losing out by a
whisker to Bertola right. at the wire,
Marietta's Image was driven by Gerry
Sloan and trained by Clinton's Paul Taylor.

brilliant comeback after a bad fall two
weeks ago to place second, with Fred Sadler
at the helm. Another Clinton mare, Hoot and
Lois Gibbings' Harlo Candy was a close
third, driven by North American champion
Cindy Horner, while John Muir brought Jay
Bee Scamp in 6th for owners Ben and Jean
Feagan of Goderich.

Verdun Vanstone's Benmiller Shelley came ` race, in a brilliant win by He's Special,
shadowed by Becky Hi for second. He's •
Special was driven by Karen Fekete for
owner Carman Kerr and trainer Allan
Shelton, both of Goderich, for his third win
in a row; while Dale Kennedy was in control
of Becky Hi for owner Joe Lane of Seaforth.
It was a two -woman race in the 8th
between Laurie McNeight with Apopka
Byrd and Cindy Horner with Ever Superb,
as they traded the lead back and forth over
the mile. Apopka Byrd had the lead at the
half, but had 'to relinquish it going around
the far turn when Ever Superb turned on the
juice for owner Dave Sinclair of Harriston.
Apopka Byrd was second in his fastest race
yet, for owner/trainer Robert Rapson of
Holmesville.
There were no local horses in the final
race of the day and of the season, a $2,000
Preferred Pace which attracted some high
class horses with bankrolls ranging from' a
low of $6,885 for Royalview Fanny to a high
of $188,946 for Triple S. Keith Waples return-
ed to Clinton to add another $1,000 to Kawar-
tha Tinsel's lifetime total of $24,239, winning
with the OSS filly in the day's fastest time,
2:02 2/5, for the Shady Hill Racing Stable in
Durham. Roger B. Quick, a newcomer to
Clinton, placed second, Dennis Morrisey up,
for. owner John Morrisey of Grand Bend,
with Handy Slipper in Wird with Ross Bailin,
for Dr. Paul Rutherford of Listowel.
Clinton's season may be. 'over until next
June, but be sure to catch the excitement at
the Seaforth Fair this Friday as some of that
town's best pacers compete in two heats of
the famous Trainers Derby. Rene Dupuis
will drive Star Buck Lee, Ron Kennedy will
have Becky 'Hi, Buck Glanville will take on
Out All, Knight,. Bruce Lamont will pilot
Willa's Roger,, and Karen Bennett will rein
Viola's Woo. It should be a real cliff-hanger -
don't miss it!' Post time is at 2.p.m.
in a close third piloted by the Goderich
owner, while Ross Battin ' placed 4th with
Counteractor for owner/trainer Sam 'Taylor
of Hensall.
In the second race, the gallant free -legged
Seaforth mare Out All Knight, Fred Sadler
up, led all the way to the second turn into the
backstretch, only to fade way back under
the pace set -by the winner, Sweet Noble,
with Karen Fekete driving to the stud's 4th
win in a row. In the same race, another
Seaforth horse, Viola's Woe, was never too
far off the pace with Gerry Sloan up, and
made her move at the top of the stretch to
place second ori the outside for owner Bill.

Race four was a thriller for local fans with
four local horses taking the top three spots
in a finish .so tight it was called wrong by an-
nouncer Billy Kell. Ross Battin finished first
