Blyth correspondent Kathy Bromley has been baking bread and buns for over 10 years.
She admits that when she started, she was far from the fine baker she is now. Although
Mrs. Bromley 'gets her fill" of buns and bread while making them, her sous, Scot( ( left )

BLYTl;-I - Kathy Bromley is a busy
woman. The mother of two not only .finds
time to take care of her family' while
participating in a wide number of clubs, but
she bakes a variety of buns and bread, and
has added a new occupation to her list
Kathy is the Newest News -Record
correspondent, reporting on the people and
the latest happenings in the Village of Blyth.
$he is well qualified for the job because she
is a community minded person and is
interested in informing her neighbors, and
other local communities, of the activities
taking place in Blyth.
The list of organizations which Kathy
belongs to shows her many interests. She is
the flag bearer for the Blyth Ladies Legion
Auxiliary, as well as the correspondent, she
is a member of•the Horticultural Society and
sells merchandise for Regal products.
Because her husband, Bev, is a fireman,
Kathy is always ready' to answer the fire
phone located in her kitchen. The phone is
one of only five in the village.
Kahty previously worked at the Queens
Villa Senior Citizens' Horne and says the
contacts she made while working there will
be beneficial. She welcomes any calls from
people with news they feel will interest their
community. buns off”

For many years Kathy has . occupied a
great deal of her time baking, or as she says,
'"working my buns off."
She became interested in baking through
her brother, Ken Doherty, while he was
working at Eedy's Bake Shop in Dungannon.
With his help, and plenty of experimenting,
Kathy .ha}S developed her making• talents
into a prosperous business. .
""I started baking for my husband when
we first got • married. We eould have sold
what I baked as door stops," she laughed.
"But I kept at it and through practice, I
found new ways of improving."

safe to say that, in this ease, practice makes
perfect.
However, no one who is just starting gets
customer knocking on their door. Kathy had
to earn her reputation.
"I started selling them, (baked goods)
with a girlfriend. My husband makes maple
syrup which we sold at flea markets so we
took the buns there," she said.
While Kathy was selling her goods at the
flea markets, her slogan liras "Kathy
Kneads the Dough.
Along with serving regular customers,
Kathy also takes orders for weddings and
helps with catering. For a wedding, she
would make approximately 40 dozen buns.
She estimates it takes her six hours to do one
batch.
"From the start to packaging takes six
hours. That includes cleaning up as well,"
she said, "It's not profitable, but I enjoy it.
When I have a bad day I just take it out on
the dough."
Kathy finds that her busiest time of the
year is at Christmas, but she has developed
a system that makes her job a little less
strenuous.
"Two years ago I had to make 64 dozen
buns the day before Christmas. Now I
prepare the buns before, give them to the
customer when they are fresh, and
recommend they put the buns in the freezer.
That way they freeze the buns when they are
fresh and they'll come out fresh."
This year she catered to a baseball
tournament and many compliments about
the food. One letter she received stated, "1 gm
guess the mere selling Of nearly 525 kaisers NNIF
speaks for itself."
And Kathy's family appreciates her
baking talents.
"My husband will take six kaisers for his
lunch, and the kids enjoy them, but I get my
fill of them while baking."
An appreciated convenience in the village
is the flour mill. There she can buy 80 pound
bags of flour, and Kathy notes, "Around
Christmas I go through a bag in two days."
Kathy enjoys her work and has some witty
answers when questioned about it.
"When someone asks me how 1 get the
bread so big I tell them that it's the yeast of
my worries. If anyone asks, 'how are things
going?' r say business is on the rise."
But her friends also have a sense of
humor, introducing her to others as "the
lady with the best buns in town."
Kathy will be demonstrating the making
of bread and buns at the Van Egmond House
during the 29th Annual Ciderfest on
September 29 from 12-6 p.m.
