Festival to hold ear rally Sept. 14
The Blyth Festival will be holding its first
car rally on Saturday, Sept. 14 - a "fun run"
through the beautiful Huron County coun-
tryside.
Cars will depart from the Blyth Memorial
Hall between 9 a.m. and noon. It is expected
the rally will take about three hours - unless
you get hopelessly lost, in which case you
will have to open your "emergency kit"
(provided to an registrants at the outset).
There is a lunch spot with washrooms en
route - but we can't say exactly where or it
will give the game away! '
Members of the public are invited to join
in the fun. Get into the spirit by inventing a
humorous name for your team or come in
costume (so long as it doesn't hamper your
driving ability). It is recommended that
each team consist of at least two people: one
to drive, the other to navigate and read the
instructions. This is an ideal event for the
whole family - children cant et in on the act
by watching out for clues and landmarks.
Please note, this is not a race. The object
of the rally is to'correctly ansJver questions
and identify check -points along the route,
While enjoyingthe challenge and taking in
the scenery.
The car rally is a fund-raising event with
all monies going towards the eapttal pro-
jects fund of the Blyth Festival. Teams may
pre -register by calling the myth Festival
Box Office at 523-9300/9225, or may register
on the morning of Sept. 14 itself. Registra-
tion costs $5 per car, regardless 'of the
number of people in the vehicle. ,
First prize is one night's accommodation
for two at the four star Ranton Place Motor
Hotel in Palmerston; their fitness centre in- 4)
eludes an indoor pool, sauna, whirlpool and
squash.courts. Further prizes will be award-
ed in various other categories.
Over 700 will compete at fair
The Blyth Festival will be participating in
one of Canada's largest cultural trade fairs,
Contact Ontario, on Oct. 17 to 20 at Toronto's
Constellation Hotel. Close to 700 performing
artists and sponsors from over 300 com-
munities across Ontario, from other pro-
vinces and outside 'Canada are expected to
attend the four-day event.
Funded and orchestrated by the Ontour
office of the Ontario Arts Council, Contact
provides a showcase for touring artists of
dance, music' and 'theatre and a market-
place for those artists to link up with poten-
tial buyers of touring performances.
Now in its 14th year, Contact will feature
singers, dancers, storytellers, puppeteers,
theatre companies and solo artists, in-
cluding performances by Valdy, Nancy
White, Garnet Rogers, Trio Haydn de Mon-
treal, Theatre Ballet of Canada, the Blyth
Festival and the Amadeus Ensemble. In ad-
dition to the 40 performers who will
showcase their work, over 200 artists and
their managers will also promote their pro-
duct through exhibits and video presenta-
tions in the Contact Room. Participants will
also be invited to attend workshops on
aspects of professional .booking and tour
management.
Contact was developed specifically as a
marketing tool in response to community
needs and growing professional talent in On-
tario. Through recent surveys, the untour
office has determined that the majority of
the more than 300 provincial sponsors who
attend Contact select approximately 68 per-
