Craigs #1y to Vancouver to attend weddin

WALTON - Nola Irkby led the UCW
meeting. Marion Godkin was the pianist for
the evening and Marjory Fraser read the
scripture. Mrs. Kirby gave the meditation
on thehistory of the people of Israel and Bet-
ty McCall lead in prayer.
• Edith Wey, assisted by Marilyn
McDonald, of the archives gave the
background of the present UCW and of the
church.
The business was conducted by Mrs.
Godkin, the vice-president. Marilyn
McDonald read the minutes and Leona
McDonald gave the treasurer's report.
No change will be made to the menu of the
annual turkey supper to be held November
6. The price is the same as last year. It was
moved to send a fall bale of clothing for the
needy. Good articles of clothing can be left
at the back of the Sunday School rooms by
Sunday, October 27.
If there are any resignations you are re-
quested to have them into Viola Kirkby in
writing as soon as possible or by the next ex-
ecutive meeting October 2.
The next general meeting will be held in
December, featuring a pot luck supper. The
executive meeting is in October.'
Rally I
The regional rally of the UCW will be held
at the Egmondville Church on Monday, Oc-
tober 7 starting at 7 p.m. with a dessert prior
to the meeting.
Edith Wey gave an outline of her day at
Alma College. Bonnie Ramble closed the
meeting.
WI notes
There was a family consumer affairs
meeting of the Walton WI on September 8.
Members were asked to bring an article for
Children's and Family Services.
Win a draw
Winners of the Walton area monthly draw
for the month of September were Amy and
Kelly Workman of RR2 Brussels winning"
$100 while the $25 prize went to Karen War-
wick of Olds, Alberta.
Church news
Allan and Alice Searle greeted worship-
pers Sunday morning at Duff's United Chur-
ch.
The organist was Elva Wilbee and the of-
fering was received by Doug Fraser, Emer-
son Mitchell and Jeff McGavin.
Seaforth Harmony Kings and Lane
Hazelwood will supply the music next Sun-
day for the 125th anniversary at Duff's
United Church at 11 a.m. Note the change of
time. There will be no church at Bluevale
the following week as it will be their an-
niversary.
The Official Board meeting was held in the
church basement Sunday evening with the
charge supervisor, the Rev. Cheryl Ann
Stadelbaur-Sarni pa present.
People report
Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Craig flew to Van-
couver last weekend to attend the wedding
of their daughter, Sherrill to Robert Chris-
tian, formerly of Delaware, U.S.A. The wed-
ding took place in Unity Church of Van-
couver with the reception following in the
Annabelle Room of the Four Season Hotel.
The bride and groom will be residing in the
eastern states.
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Elliott of Seaforth
and Mary Elliott of Burnaby, B.C. also at-
tended.
Mary Humphries spent Wednesday with
her daughter Wenda Stroope and family of
Fordwich,

Blaine Marks placed second in the 16 and
under class at the Fiddler's Contest at the
Thresher's Reunion.
Mr. and Mrs. Ken McDougall and Kendra
Ann of Clinton; Mr. and Mrs, Harry Snell of
Londesboro and Mr. and Mrs. Allan McCall
were supper guests of Bev Stevenson, Ron
and Chris on September 6 on the occasion of
Ken and Heather's 10th wedding anniver-
sary.
Walton Public School studentsare well in-
to there second week of school after the
summer break. The enrolment for this year
is 76.
The staff at the school this year is, prin-
cipal, Mr. Jewitt; vice-principal, Phys -Ed
and music teacher Rob Snell. Grade 1- Barb
Elston; Grade 2 - Della Bennett; Grade 3 -
Shirley Lyons. Beth Hagan, a new teacher,
will work at both Walton and Seaforth
schools. The kindergarten teacher is Joan
Vanderdool.
The 18 new kindergarten children starting
are, Jason Badley, Mark Beuermann, Kelly
Blake, Kelly Boven, David Brown, Carol
Ann Gamble, Brent Hazelgrove, David
Henderson, Yolande Horst, Christina Kuntz,

Calf named grand champion

Congratulations to Donna Lynn Arm-
strong whose calf, Hiironia Title Rachel,
was named Grand Champion Calf at the On-
tario Jersey Club Junior Show at the Cana-
dian National Exhibition in Toronto recent-
ly. Donna Lynn is the 11 -year-old daughter
of Fred and Ruth Armstrong.
The Women's Institute meeting will begin
with a dessert lunch at the home of Marjorie
McDougall on Tuesday, September 17 at
1:30 p.m. Cheryl Cronin' of Blyth will speak
on "Special Education". The roll call will be
"How t.v. affects our children."
Norman McDowell is a patient in
Winghain hospital. He is wished a speedy
recovery.
Mrs. Earl Wightman, her brother Tharis
Mathers of Lucknow and Harvey Wightman
of Waterloo visited on Thursday with Ellen
Johnston and Laura Phillips.

Church News
Mrs. Barry Millian played the organ
prelude at the Knox United Church service
on Sunday. The choir sang "Bless the Lord
O My Soul".
The minister, Gary T. Shuttleworth, chose
for his sermon, , "That Thing Called
Brotherhood".
Tammie Shuttleworth and Margaret Bak-
ker were in charge of the junior congrega-
tion. The offering was received by Peter
Verbeek and Murray Rollinson, followed by
the singing of the offertory hymn.

Rev. Keays led the'September 8 service at
the Kippen United Church. The topic of his
sermon was Old and New Wells. He noted
that water from wells is a prime necessity

BRUCEFIELD - The UCW meeting was
held on September 3 with Hazel McCartney
and Minnie Walters in charge of the wor-
ship. Donna McBeach was the pianist.
Barbara Moffat presided and Mrs. Cliff
Henderson read the minutes of the previous
meeting and gave the treasurer's report in
the absence of Marjorie Broadfoot. Plans
were made for" the dessert euchre on Oc-
tober 1 at 1 p.m. The regional meeting will
be at Egmondville on October 28. The UCW
are also invited to Goshen on October 10 at 8
p.m.
People
Mr. and Mrs. John Moffat and family at-
tended the Craw family picnic in Brantford
Sunday.
Jack Bennett of Denver, Colorado spent
the weekend with Mr. and Mrd. Ivan
Wightman. They attended a farrlily'reunion
in Stillwater, New Jersey on the weekend
and a picnic with Mr. and Mrs. Jim McCully
of Kincardine and his family at Stratford.
Ina and Ellen Scott of London visited with
their brother Ross Scott on Sunday.
J.K. Cornish of Bluewater Nursing Home
in Zurich spent Monday with Mr. and Mrs.
Ray Brook.
Florence O'Neill of London spent the
weekend with his sister Violet Ross.
Stanley history
needs articles
The Stanley Township History Committee
will meet on Wednesday, September 18 at 8
p.m. at the complex. Those wishing to
register a family history for space in the
book, are asked to do so before the meeting.
While this is an extension of the original
registration deadline, the October 1
deadline for the history to be submitted is
still in effect.
All writers who have not turned in their
articles, are asked to have them completed
by October 1.
The committee is still seeking articles and
pictures of historical and interesting subs
jects. If you have such articles, contact Ivan
McClymont and if you have pictures, con-
tact Bill McAsh.
Information is needed on the early days of
the Drysdale area, Who has pictures of
Hillsgreen, Blake, Drysdale, Granton, Ban-
nockhurn, the river mills, Pearsons and
Wagners Corners, and the Logan Creek
Mills and settlement? Information is also
needed on the French Presbyterian Church
(1875-1905) , the Methodists (1850 - 1900) ,
both Wesleyan and Episcopal, as well as the
community church (1905-1925), all at
Drysdale. ..
