WI attends council meeting

LONDESBQRO - Rev. Dave Snihur and
Harry Snell greeted the congregation for the
Sunday service at the Londesboro United
Church. Ushers for the service were Len Ar-
chambault, Brenda Nesbitt, Dennis Pen -
found and Bob Trick. Hymn sing time was
held before the church session and was led
by Rev. Snihur and pianist Marsha Szusz.
Rev. Snihur welcomed all and announced
choir practise Wednesday nights at 7:15
p.m. Chdir members are needed.
The Bible study meetings will be held at
the home of Joan Whyte on September 18 at
1 p.m. and on September 18 at 1 p.m. at the
home of Alice Davidson. The UCW meeting
is slated for September 16 at 7 p.m. at Bren-
da Radford's.
4-H Club
Sandra Mayberry and Marjory Duizer at-
tended the workshop for the 4-H Basic Bak-
ing last week. The first meeting of the
Londesboro 3 Club will be held September 16
at 7 p.m. at the home of Marjorie Duizer.
Anyone between the age of 12-21 years, are
welcome. Please call the leaders if you are
interested in joining.
WI Citizenship Meeting
The citizenship meeting was held on
September 3. Fourteen members met at the
Hullett Township office and attended the
council meeting. Reeve Tom Cunningham
chaired the meeting and some residents at-
tended the meeting with their problems,
mostly about water hazards.
After the meeting the WI members were.if
they had any questions. Some concerns in -

eluded the condition of the village's
sidewalks and why the polling booths have
been changed. Marjorie Anderson thanked
the council.
The WI members returned to the hall for
the regular meeting. The roll call was
answered by "what I would do if I were on
council." The minutes from the last meeting
were read by secretary -treasurer Alice
Buchanan.
The WI rally will be held on October 7 at
Thamesford and the area annual convention
will be held on October 30 and 31 at
Nilestown. The delegate from Londesboro is
Alice Buchanan. It was moved to invite
guests to the November meeting from the
Blyth WI, Auburn WI, Londesboro UCW and
Burns UCW. Catherine McKnight is to be
the guest speaker for the occasion.
The WI will cater to the Lions. Club on
September 19. Beryl Reid read a letter of
thanks from Cela Sloman for donations.
Burns UCW
The Burns UCW meeting was held at the
home of Gay Salverda on September 4 with
14 members present. Mrs. Salverda opened
the meeting with a reading. Ida Leiper
theplascrriptu eed the s and Clara Riley led in prayean. Mrs. Salverda read r.
A poem was also read by Ramona Jamieson
and Gladys Leiper gave two readings.
Margaret Taylor chose as her topic the life
of John Newton. Amelia Rice conducted the
business.

Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Falconer have moved
to Sunset Beach, Goderich..
Mr. and Mrs. Everett Hessels have moved
' into Falconer's house, while Mr. and Mrs.
Bob Higgins have taken up residence in
their formerhome. •
Rose Lee has been out doing the
enumerating in Blyth this past week, while
Olwen Richmond did a portion of Morris.
Hopefully all's well and accounted for!
The Legion and Ladies' Auxiliary are sell-
ing tickets on a whole pig and ahalf pig. Get
in touch with any member for tickets. The
draw is to be made on December 7. With any
luck it might just put pork on your fork!
Anyone who ordered tulips ,from the
Legion will be receiving them shortly, as
they have now arrived.
It is good to see Rena Watt up and around
again. She had .injured her foot a few weeks
ago and had to either stay off of it, or have it
in a cast. Her daughter, Marjorie McNall
accompanied her at nights to ensure no pro-
..
blems were encountered.
Marion Cook hasher leg in a cast from the
knee down. Maybe the Theatre plays a big-
ger part in our lives.than we are aware of -
more and more of our residents want to be in
the cast too!
A cane has been lost on Drummond Street,
in the Knechtel's area. It is essential that it
be found. A reward is being offered. Call 523-

Mary Ann Howson has returned from the
hospital. It's good to see her home.again.
Wednesday was the student's first holiday
this year. No classes were held in the morn-
ing. They attended the Belgrave Fair in. the
afternoon.
Congratulations to Andrew Battye • and
Brenda Zimmerman whb were wed, August
31, in St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church,
Blyth. They will be living near, Wingham.
Wayne McClinchey is now living on Queen
Street, in the house where he was raised.
The 4-H Clubs will begin soon, under the .
leadership of Eunice Emke, Gayle. King and
Karen Stewart. The, classes will centre
around "Basic Baking." Anyone who is in-
terested, please contact dny of these ladies.
Wendy and Cameron Crawford, from
Kelowna, B.C. spent a few days with her
mother-in-law, Mrs. Charles Crawford.
Registration for Brownies and Girl Guides
will be held Thursday night between 7 and 8
p.m. in the school.,
Euchre will be starting in the Blyth
Memorial Hall on September 23.
Over the last weekend various people had
visitors, too numerous to mention.
Congratulations to the Blyth Squirts,
coached by Grant and Wanda Elliott. The
11-12 year olds played in Belgrave last
weekend. They defeated Goderich,
Londesboro and Stanley Township to
become the "A" Champions.
I'd: been playing around with an idea for
this Christmas. For a change, I would scat-
ter numerous thurnb tacks on the top of my
parent's gifts. It would be interesting to see
how long it takes before someone realizes -
tacks included! Get the point?
Quote of the. week: "Most parents want
their children to have the things that they
didn't have -like straight A's in school!"
Blyth WI
Yukon
The September meeting, of the Blyth WI
was led by Mrs. William Carter and Marian
Wright.
Irene Thalan showed slides of the Yukon
and the road to Alaska.
The next meeting will be held on October
3, at the Town Hall .in Blyth. It will be a
"Public Relations" meeting with Mrs. Seth
Emke is in charge. Everyone is invited to at-
tend any or all of the meetings.

Council approved the cleanout of the
Wagner municipal drain at a cost of $4,450
and the cleanout and repair of the Young
municipal drain at a cost of $3,500.
Council decided not to support the request
of the Sudbury Region Disaster Relief Com-
mittee for disaster, relief funds.
Council endorsed the application of John
Luukas for a Draft Approval Extension to
study a possible subdivision for Auburn for a
one-year term.
It was announced the reading of the
Wilson Drainage report will .baheld on Tues-
day, September 17 at 8:30 p.m.

of Brenda Brisbin at RH2 Gowanstown.
Colleen Carter of Exeter spent the
weekend with her parents Mr. and Mrs.
Glen Carter.
Mrs. Charlie Crawford and Cameron of
Kelowna, B.C. spent the weekend with
Maimie Crawford of Blyth. '
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Marzano, Candice and
Glen of Schomberg spent the weekend with
her brother Mr. and Mrs. Alan Caldwell,
Dwight and Dean on Saturday. They attend-
ed the committal service at Londesboro
Cemetery for their mother Jean Caldwell.
Dora Shobbrook, Ken and Joy Vodden and
Roy and Anne Vodden attended the wedding
on September 7 of their grandniece Lisa
Huggill and Gordon Ross in Lambeth United
Church. A dinner and supper were held in
the Delaware Community Hall.
Several from here attended "Huron Day"
at the Blue Jay game in Toronto on Satur-
day.
Visitors on Saturday with Mr. and Mrs.
Bob Burns were Vi's sister Mr. and Mrs. Ir-
ving Keyes and Bill of Glammis and also
Bob's sister Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert McDonald
and Richard of Kincardine. They attended
the Threshermen's Reunion in Blyth.
Weekend visitors with Edythe Beacom
and Laura Lyon were Mr. and Mrs. Lee
Earl, Grace Fountain and daughter Harvet-
ta from Pickford, Michigan. They attended
the Threshermen's Reunion over the
weekend.

UCW resume meetings

BELGRAVE - The Afternoon Unit of the
Belgrave U.C.W. held its monthly meeting
on September 3 with Sara Anderson
presiding.
The roll call for the Thanksgiving meeting
on Tuesday, October 8 will be "Something
you are thankful for".
Helen Martin and Mrs. Ross Higgins were
in charge of the worship service with Mrs.
Glenn Coultes at the piano.
The Bible study taken by Jean Pattison,
Olive Bolt and Mrs. Coultes continued the
study on Korea.
The Evening Unit of Knox UCW met on
September 3 at the home of Mrs. Clarence
Yuill.
Mrs. Norman Cook conducted the worship
with the theme "Contentment".
The leader, Mrs. George Mickie, led the
business portion of the meeting. Roll call
was answered by 19 members. Mrs. John
McIntosh led a bible study on "Love".
The Curator Meeting of the Women's In-
stitute will be held in the W.I. Hall on
Thursday, September 19 at 8:15 with the
Convener, Mrs. Ross Taylor, showing pic-
tures of her trip to the British Isles. All
women in the community are welcome to at-
tend.
Mrs. Joe Fritzley of Goderich visited on
Saturday with her aunt Olive Campbell.
Elizabeth Procter visited . on Thursday
with her daughter and son-in-law Mr. and
Mrs. Howard Zettler, Sherry and twins
Alicia and Amanda of RR 4 Walkerton.
Over the weekend, Elizabeth Procter
visited with her daughter Marjorie Procter
of Mississauga,
Mr. and Mrs. Lan McCaullbugh and,
Eleanor Smith of Port Elgin visited on the
weekend wi their cousins Mr. and Mrs.
Leslie Vine, Dorothy Logan and Mr. and
Mrs. Harol Vincent.
Dorothy Logan spent a few days last week
with Mr. and Mrs. America Arrida, Marie
and Michelle of Toronto.
Mr. and Mrs. Elston Speiran of Brussels
visited Sunday evening with Mr. and Mrs.
Bert Johnston.
Mr. and Mrs.. Ralph McCrea of Blyth
visited with Mr,. and Mrs. Clare Van Camp
on Saturday evening.
Mr. and Mrs. William Geiger, of Listowel
visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs.
Clarence Hanna.
Mr. and Mrs. Brian Stores and Adam of
Kitchener spend the weekend at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hanna.
Anniversary services were. held at Knox
Presbyterian Church, Belgrave, on
September 11. Rev. Victor Jamieson of
Brussels was the speaker.
Margaret Shortreed of Brussels sang two
solos accompanied by Mrs. Lyle Brothers of
Brussels.
Don't forget to attend the Belgrave, Blyth
and Brussels School Fair on Wednesday
September .11 at the Belgrave Community
Centre.
