The all feniale crews were racing to see who Was going to be Queen of the lake. The win- ners of the race also received atrophy and a flag; .. The winds were ideal for sailing and the ladies kneW what they were doing as five out of the six ships clocked in at just over two hours. The ladies average speed according to veteran sailor Irish Ferguson was between six to seven nauts, or a little under ten miles an hour. The eventual winner of the race was the Apres Ski owned by Irish Ferguson. Christy Ferguson, the skipper of the .boat edged out Tina McKillop skipper of Sheer Madness by two seconds. Last year Christy Fergusen edged out Tina' McKillop on a different boat by, ten seconds. According to Irish Ferguson this shows how good the Skippers are, to come that close to each other. \ Synchroncity came in third and the skip- per wvas Pam Miles of London, the Karika carne fourth, Jigsaw' placed fifth while Cygnet was sixth. A trophy and a flag was presented to Christy Ferguson by her father Irish. "Sailing is one of the only true amateur sports left. The only place in the world they race for money is Sydney Australia," .said Irish Ferguson. Mr. Ferguson has been sailing about 25 years and he enjoys it.. He is currently an organizer and an official for many the Bayfield sailing races. • "Sailing is a lot Of fun, besides it keeps you • off of the streets. My kids all sail with me and before long I'll be teaching my. grand- children how to sail. "When your racing, you're so busy con- centrating on getting the best out of your boat, that it takes your mind off of any other problems you have," Mr. Ferguson said. According to Ferguson racing revolves' around team work. As a skipper you have to work with your crew. "Racing is a good way to spend a Sunday afternoon or any other afternoon for that matter," he said.
