(Shelley McPhee photo) Good eating in Stanley By Mary Chessell VARNA - Stanley Township Council and Recreation Commission had a busy weekend. Council members and their families served a delicious breakfast on Saturday morning in the hall, and over 400 attended the Recreation Commission's barbecue Sunday afternoon and ate three pigs (140 lbs. dressed weight) and a large smorgasbord of salads and desserts. A fourth barbecued pig was donated to Huron- view. There were family ball games all after- noon on Sunday, with the kids' teams play- ing their parents. What promised to be a good ladies fastball game between the Ex- eter Greys, coached by Janet Graham and Sandra's husband (Sandra plays on the team) and a Blanshard Township team was cancelled because of an electrical storm. Dale Peck is buueung an addition to the barn on his property.. Bruce and Anna Keys had a delightful trip to Sault Ste. Marie, Agawa Canyon and Mackinac Island a week ago. Students entering high school from this area include .Nancy Webster, Shelley Hayter and Sc:,tt Kirton. Sherri Chuter is entering the University of Waterloo to prepare for a career as a Recreational Director. Lori Hayter is in the Pharmacy course at Western University, and her sister Tracey is in ,hairdressing school. in Kitchener. I wonder if our neighbors are trying to tell us something? Several years ago we return- ed from holidays to find a "For Sale" 'sign on our house. Last week a real estate "Sold" sign was on it. The news sure got around fast. Oh, the things that people in 'this neighborhood do for fun! The Stanley Township Squirt Girls ball team showed their moms how to play ball at a Sunday afternoon match. Joanne Hayter was on the winning side, beating the parents 18 - 12. Afternoon ball games in Stanley matched kids against the older generation as part of the Labor Day celebrations. Powells celebrate 50th By Blanche Deeves HOLMESVILLE - On August 31 friends and relatives of Fran and Marion Powell gathered at the White Carnation to help them celebrate 50 years of married life. The evening was spent dancing to some good old fashion music, including a couple of square dancing numbers. The evening ended with lunch served by the couple's niece and nephew, Sandra and Dave Orr and their daughter Angela.
