CNR School ohl. Wheel ,15089 hefore t3 a An,
nual General Meeting and election of I3oard
members to be held at the ear ha Sloman
Park on September 1.8. All who are in-
terested in the School Car are invited' to at-
tend and participate.
Exciting things have been happen► at
the car this summer. Margaret and Lela
Sloman spend many hours welcoming
visitors. Since the car was opened on a
regular basis on May 19 a total of 503 people
have signed the guesrbook. A particular
welcome was extended to the two eldest
Sloman daughters, Joan Reid from Edgar,
Ontario and Elizabeth Hillman and her hus-
band Don, home from Kampala Uganda.
Visitors from Vancouver, Niagara Falls,
Oakville, Sudbury, Ottawa, Rochester, New
York, Pawnee, Illinois, Sarnia, Waterdown,
Clearwater, Illinois, London, Exeter, An -
caster, Hamilton, Cambridge, Dorchester,
Chatham, Campbellford LaBaie, Quebec
and St. Catharines have found their way to
Sloman Park as well as over 50 children and
their "Kids" who attended a Cabbage Patch
Kids picnic.
The antique cars that were shown at the
park on July 13 were a great drawing card.
Mrs. Sloman was treated to a ride in the
oldest car in the display - built about 1907.
She says it was an exciting experience. All
the vehicles in this Horseless Carriage Club'
must pre -date 1915 which means they must
be similar in age to the School Car which is
now 71 years old.
Mrs. Sloman was interviewed by a group
from the Canadian Broadcasting Corpora-
tion in Toronto who had hopes of making a
television series loosely based on the story
• of the CNR School on Wheels and the Sloman
Family. The first show is now ready to be
aired so don't miss "And Miles To Go" on
CBC TV, Wednesday September 11 at 9 p.m.
Clinton and area people should be especially
proud of this recognition of the
achievements of the School on Wheels.
Visitors to the car are asked to go around
to the side nearest the river and have a look
at the new wooden, siding that is being put
up The orifi suiting had deteriorated
badly with the years an the new aiding is a
faithful reproduction-especy suede for
the car. Thials an expensive project and On-
ly enough wood was ordered to cover ap-
proximatelyy One side of the car at this tune.
This expenditure, was made possibly by a
recently received and much appreciated
government grant.
Please visit the School on Wheels in
Sloman Park and share in the satisfaction of
the volunteers at the progress being made
in the restoration work.
