Everyone enjoyed a barbecue and it was.a

have their turn. The weekly. bible study
group met at the usual time on August 8,
Father John. Pluuta conducted Roman
Catholic Mass on August 9. lathe afternoon,
the popular bingo party took.place.
This summer there are two young ladies
working with the activity program at
' Huronview. Anita Devine and Teresa
Raithby are an energetic pair who are doing
a splendid job. Their duties are concerned
mostly with the residents, transporting
wheelchair folic, doing ,errands, reading
letters, helping with crafts and many other
little chores. young people seem to have a

Vanastra to host gospel' singer
VANASTRA - Tim Daniels is .a Christian
• singer and songwriter from Nashville, Ten-
nessee, He hosted Global's Easy Country
television show and performed throughout
the United States and Canada. 'The concert
will beat the Vanastra Park on Saturday,
August 17 at 7 p.m. Rather than an admis-
sion charge a freewill offering will betaken.
Everyone, including children and young
people, are welcome. Bring your own lawn
"chairs.
. Other activities related to the Christian
Reformed Church community this past
• " week and this week include a ,Christian
school meeting, two worship services and a
special senior citizen day on Augttst 15.
-The membership of the Clinton Christian
School dealt with such items of interest as
increased enrollment in kindergarten, tui-
tion payment distribution, and the purpose
of Christian education. The meeting was
•well attended and the discussion lively by
the parents of Clinton, Goderich and Exeter
whose children will he enrolled this coming
September.
On,August 11 the congregation heard Rev.
Homer Samplonius preach on Does' God
Always Watch Over Us? The sermon was
based on Isaiah 49:15-31 and Deuteronomy
•
29:29. In . the evening service, Rev.
Samplonius started an eight sermon series
on the Canons of Dort; one of the three
historical reformed confessions the Chris-
tian Reformed Church subscribes to. The
Reformed Churchc9 preach the doctrine of
election, in which they believe that the Bible
teaches that God is in full c ntrol of the
destiny and salvation of the w r1d, although
he has allowed(not caused) n to siri and
offers free pardon for sins through faith in
Jesus Christ.
The Vanastra Community Church heard
about Tongues as of Fire: Rsv. Hegeman,
Tilling in for Jim Visser, ledthe service. The
singing group 'The Messengers' from Ex-
eter sang two beautiful'numbers forthe con-
gregation.
The senior citizens have a special outing
to Sarnia on August 15. Rev. .J. Hoytema,
well known to the Christian Reformed com-
munity in Clinton and: presently minister in
Burlington, will be the special speaker.
As the summer is drawing to a close dur-
ing the end of August, several groups of the
church are planning special camping and
summer events. Before we know it,
September Will be here.
Clinton man dies at age of 57
William Gordon
William A. Gordon of 139 Princess St. in
Clinton, a former farmer in Grey Township,
died on August 5, 1985 at Clinton Public
Hospital. Be was 57. •
Mr. Gordon, born in Grey Township on
April 4, 1928, lived niost of his life in the
township before moving to Clinton in 1975,.
He was a member of the 1,nndesboro United
F'h'urch,

The funeral was held at the Beattie
Funeral Home in Clinton on August 7 with
Rev. Stanley C. McDonald officiating..
