Blyth celebrates 60th year
BLYTH - The 60th Anniversary of the
United Church of Canada was celebrated in
a special way by the Blyth Congregation on
June 9.
Organ and piano duets were played
throughout the service by Marget Kai and
Shirley Vincent and the senior choir sang.
To mark the occasion, Adeline Campbell
and Steven Bearss presented two beautiful
banners displaying the church's crest and
the unifying symbols of the congregations
which make up the United Church. During
the Children's Time, Rev. Ken Bauman ex-
plained the meaning of the banners.
Fred Howson, chairman of the Missions
Committee, received the presentations of
Mission Gifts given by the Messengers, Ex-
plorers, Tyros and Teen group.
Scripture and other readings were given
by Melda McElroy, Susan Howson, Emily
Phillips, Heather McDonald, Evalena
Webster, Brenda McDonald, Joanne
Bauman, Leslie Phillips.
A 60th Anniversary Dialogue was very
capably and humorously acted out by Melda
McElroy, Steven Sparling, David Sparling,
Stephen Souch, Shannon Snell, Gayle Poore,
Julie Howson, Shane Snell, Karen Phillips
and Heather Bauman.
Greeters were Marjorie McNall and Ray
Madill. Ushers were Linda Wilson, Lloyd
and Jeff Sipple and, Bruce Howson. Flowers
were lovingly placed in the chancel in '

convenes
at Brussells
BRUSSEIS-The Spring meeting of the
Deanery of South Saugeen was held in
Belgrave on June 9 with an attendance of 51
women and six clergy.
After registration a communion service
was held at Trinity Church, with the rector,
Douglas Madge, assisted by Rev. Meerilyn
Letson, of Lucknow.
The readers were Mrs. Alex Nethery,
Beth Procter and Mrs. Harold Jardin. The
church was beautifully decorated with spr-
ing flowers arranged by Mrs. Jack King.
The Deanery President, Mrs. TedQuinn
of Blyth opened the business meeting. Mrs.
Jardin gave a history of Trinity Church.
Janice Henry and Jo Douvt both gave
reports on the Diocesan Council activities,
Council supports financially.
Mrs. Keith Van Camp read the minutes
and treasurer's report. Carol Cooper ac-
cepted the nomination as secretary
treasurer.
Alma Craven of Goderich gave the noon
time meditation and prayer. A box lunch
was enjoyed.
Sing -Song Led
A sing -song was led by Mrs. Quinn with
Mrs. Clare Van Camp as pianist. Jean
McBride spoke and showed slides of her trip
to Uganda.
Mrs. Florence Hodgins expressed thanks
to Mrs. McBride for her presdntation. The
meeting closed with tea and cookies served
by the Belgrave A.C.W.

The Belgrave W.M.S. held its associate
members meeting on Monday, June 3 at the
home of Hebo Siertsema.
Ivy Cloakey presided. Hymns were sung
and Mrs. William Dalrymple read the scrip-
ture, Mrs. Siertsema led in prayer, and read
a poem. Aleline Campbell sang a solo and
Mrs. Dalrymple read a poem.
Mrs. Victor Youngblut was called on to in-
troduce the special guest. Grace Richard-
son. She showed slides andlgave a commen-
tary. A question and answer period follow-
ed.
Mrs. Garner Nicholson thanked the
speaker and Mrs. Campbell for making the
meeting so interesting.
An invitation was read from Calvin - Brick
United Church to their meeting on June 17 at
8 p.m. �
Rev. Jamieson closed the meeting with
prayer and lunch was served by the hostess.

Congratulations to Grant Gray for receiv-
ing his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture
Degree from the University of Guelph on
June 7. Grant is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
John Gray.
Congratulations to Christopher Meier,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Meier of RR 4,
Brussels who received his degree in
Agricultural and Mechanization on Friday,
June 7 at the University of Guelph.
Don Vincent of Riverview, New
Brunswick spent the weekend with his

The Family and Consumer Affairs
meeting of the W.I. will be held in the Hall
on June 18 at 8:15 p.m. with the speaker be-
ing the Home Economist, Mary Anne
Yarornich and special guests the 4-H leaders
and girls and Denise Nethery, the Huron
County Dairy Princess. Lunch will be serv-
ed by Mrs. Ross Higgins and Mrs. Evelyn
James.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Grasby spent, the
weekend in Ilderton. On Saturday evening
they were entertained by their family, Mr.
and Mrs. Gary Leitch and family. Mr. and
Mrs. George Johnston and family on the
occasion of their 40th Wedding Anniversary
at the Great West Beef Restaurant in Lon-
don.
On June 9, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Leitch
hosted a surprise smorgasbord dinner at
their home for relatives and friends from Il-
derton, Brussels, Belgrave, Thorndale and
London.
Knox Presbyterian congregation held a
pot luck supper on June 9, at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Hebo Siersterna. Special guests
were the Rev. and Mrs. Kennth Ives,. Troy
and Ryan of Winnipeg, Manitoba, formerly
of Belgrave and Brussels.
Mr. and Mrs. Les Vincent spent Sunday
afternoon at the home of their daughter and
son-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Doug Mitchell of
Hanover in honor of their 45th wedding an-
niversary.

Receives Degree
Congratulations to Mrs. Neil Vincent who
received her Bachelor of Science Degree in
Agriculture from the University of Guelph
at the Convocation Exercise3 held on Friday
at the University.
Joan was presented with the Roy Jewell
Award in Agricultural Communications at
the Awards Banquet held in the University
Centre at noon on Friday.
Those attending the Convocation Exer-
cises were Neil Vincent, Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Osborne, Joyce, Sheila and Kevin
Osborne and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Vincent.
Following the reception at the University Alk
a family dinner was held at the Bavarian NIP
Inn, in Joan's honor.

The Evening Unit of Knox United Church
UCW met at the home of Mrs. George
Michie on June 4.
Mrs. Bob Grasby opened and conducted
the business. Mrs. Jim Hunter led the wor-
ship. Mrs. Jim Hunter and Mrs. Mel
Mathers gave a reading. Mrs. Hunter and
Mrs. Mel Mathers read the scripture. Mrs.
Hunter closed with a prayer. Mrs. George
Michie led the study of Korea.
The meeting closed with the Mizpah
Benediction and lunch was served by Laura
Johnston and Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse.
