UCWmakes donations

LONDESBORO - There was a good
attendance at the Good Friday service at
Londesboro United Church. Rev. Dave
Snihur greeted the congregation and ushers .
were Diana Shobbrook, Cheryl Lyon,
®Russell Nesbit and David Whyte.
Scripture lessons were read by Bryan
Howatt, Darlene Shobbrook and Connie
Hoggart. The anthem was sung by the men's
choir. Marsha Szusz was choir director and
Lisa Duizer accompanied on the organ.
Rev. Snihur's message was "On Jesus
giving love." Words from the cross were
read by those who reed the scripture
messages. Communion was served by Rev. •
Snihur and clerk of session, Gordon
Shobbrook. •
At the Easter Sunday service the
congregation waA greeted by Rev. Snihur
and Lorne Bunking.Ushers were Denise
Hulley, Theresa Knox, Theresa Overboe and
Vickie Riley,. •
Next Sunday a Song Fest will be held at
7:30 p.m: and Messengers will meet on April
14.
Caron Snihur gave each child a drawing to
color. The sermon was "Jesus has risen,"
Burns UCW
• The Burns UCW meeting was held April
at the home of Beryl Reid with 16 members
present. Hazel Reid was group leader and
the program was based on Easter with
readings.
Business was conducted by Mrs. Rice.
Coppers are to be in and counted at the May
meeting.- Captains Hazel Reid and Caron
Snihur moved to donate $100 for Sunday
School supplies and $100 for new toys for the
nursery. Good used toys will also be
accepted.
Mrs. Rice reported 11 boxes of clothing
were taken to Toronto..
Caron Snihur invited UCW members to
her place for the May meeting.
Personals
Mrs. Bert Lyon returned home on April 3
from spending two weeks in Clinton Public
Hospital.
Easter visitors at the manse with Dave,
Caron and Gray Snihur were her sisters
Sharon Reitzel and daughter Colleen from
Kitchener and Sheila Schreiber from
Toronto.
Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Crawford, Leanne
and Cameron from Kelowna, B.C. visited his
mother Mrs. Maimie Crawford, Blyth for
the past one and a half weeks. They also
visited relations and friends here.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Marzona, Candice and
Glen of Toronto visited relations here on the
weekend.
Fourteen attended shuffleboard on April
3. The high score went to Jack Lee.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim McEwing returned
home on April 5 from spending the winter
months near Haines City,'Florida.
Mrs. Viola Riley, of Clinton, is spending
some time with Mrs. Clara Riley,
convalescing following surgery. ,
The UCW meeting will be held April 15 at 8
p.m. Fern:e and Nelson McClure will. be
guests showing slides.
Easter visitors on April 7-. with Mr. and
Mrs. Ken Vodden were Mr.;.and Mrs. Wayne
Vello and Nicole from the Northwest
Territories, Cathy Vello, Toronto, Mr. and
Mrs,. Ian Hulley, Crystal and Kimberly, of
Clinton, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Johnston,
Jacqueline, Janette and Earl, and Marilyn
Archambault.
There • were 20 Happy Gang Seniors as
guests of the C4th Happy Citizens on April 4.
Mr. and Mrs. John Lawrie, Rob and
.Jennifer, of Kitchener spent the weekend
with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Bob
Thompson.
Mrs. Joe Shaddick visited on Monday with
John Shaddick, Debbie, I)an and Paul in
Saltford celebrating Debbie's birthday.
WI end of season cards will he held April
12 at 8 p.m. Lunch will be provided.
Pancakes at Duff's

Easter Service at Duff's
WALTON - Pancake breakfast preceded
the Easter Worship Service Sunday morn-
• ing at Duff's United. Greeters were Harold
and Pearl McCall. , Marion Godkin was
organist for the Easter hymns and accom-
panied soloist Dianne Godkin. ,
Ushers for April are Campbell Wey, Ken
McDonald and Martin Baan.
Rev. Charles A. Swan introdued his
sisters Joan Dickson, Esther Bean, Valorie
Dill, her daughter Carmen from Bermuda,
Greta Edness of Mount Holly, New Jersey
and their friend Beverly Knight and her son
also from Bermuda. They are spending a
likew days at thei)Manse. Valorie and Greta
ssisted in the service by reading the scrip-
ture lessons. The congregation was
remin'ded that a Musical Evening is being
planned at Walton on April 21 at 8 p.m. with
local talent. The • choir will be combined
from both Bluevale and Walton.
Lilies placed in the,canctuary by the UCW
for shut-ins in the . community were
delivered by family or friends to Sadie
McDonald, Laving and Dave Wats. Pearl
e
Thamer, Jim Carter, Wilda Baillie, Eva
Mills, Harry Craig, Roily Achilles and Edna
McDonald.
Euchre held
There were six tables of euchre in play on
the evening April 2 at the Walton Hall with
Viola Kirkby and Elva Bolger in charge.
Winners receiving prizes were for high lady,
Rena Watt and low, Roberta Simpson. High
man was Lawrence Ryan: and the low was
Mel Jacklin. The special was Bert Daer and
Wilfred Shortreed had the marked serviette.
There will•be another euchre on April 16 at
8 p.m.

Mr. and Mrs. Bill. Griffin and Mr. and
Mrs. Bob Machan of Sarnia visited on April
6 with. Mrs. Annie Reid and'Nelson who is a
patient in Seaforth Hospital.
Miss Pam Hackwell, Toronto, spent the
Easter weekend at the home of her parents,
Mr, and Mrs. Howard Hackwell. I
Miss Karen Atcheson and Danny Achilles
of Stratford visited on the holiday weekend
with Mr. and Mrs. Roily Achilles and fami-
ly. Roily got home from Clinton Hospital on
Saturday.

Easter visitors in Ielgrave

BELGRAVE - Mr. and Mrs. Donald Whit-
field and Jenny of Sault Ste. Marie spent
Easter weekend with Mr. and Mrs. George
Michie.
Visitors on Sunday at the same home
were: Mr. and Mrs. Norman MacLennan
and family of Kitchener, Mr. and Mrs. Jirn
Baker and Mark of London and Mr, and
Mrs. Eldon Bradley of Lucknow.
Mr. and. Mrs. Gary Leitch, Julie and Jeff
of London , spent the weekend with her
parents Mn. and Mrs. Robert Grasby.
Mr. and Mrs. George Johnston, Tara and
Erin of Ilderton were weekend visitors with
their parents Mrs. Laura Johnston, Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Grasby.
Knox Presbyterian Church, Belgrave at-
tended the Easter breakfast and Church
Service at Melville Presbyterian Church,
Brussels on Sunday.
A family dinner was held in the W.I. Hall
on April 5 for Mr. and Mrs. Jim Leishman
who celebrated their 40th wedding anniver-
sary April 4.
An address was read by Garner Nicholson
and Glen James presented them with a
clock on behalf of the neighbors. Mr. and
Mrs. Leishman expressed their thanks to
everyone for the lovely gift.
The evening was spent in playing euchre
and crokinole.
Mr. Howard Roberts of Hamilton spent
Easter weekend with his parents Rev. and
Mrs. John G. Roberts.
Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Vincent, Carrie,
Anne and Stewart of Milton were weekend
visitors at the home of his parents Mr. and
Mrs. Leslie Vincent.
Mrs. Dorothy Logan and Mr. and Mrs.
Leslie Vincent visited on Sunday with Mr.
and Mrs. Douglas Mitchell of Hanover.
Mr. and Mrs. Tony Maio and Andrew of
Toronto spent the weekend with her parents
Mr. and Mrs. Ross Procter.
Jean, Donna and Patricia Cartwright of
London and Dianne and Kim Kuntz of Kit-
chener spent the weekend with their grand-
mother Mrs. May Rhin.
Mr. Donald Campbell and Lisa of London,
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Campbell and Heather
of Ancaster were Sunday visitors with their
mother Mrs. Olive Campbell.
Mr. and Mrs. John Galbraith, Michael and
Kelly of Whitby spent Easter weekend with
her mother, Mrs. Olive Campbell and . also
visited with other relatives in the area.
Mr. and Mrs: Brian Shaw, Mr. and Mrs.
Jeoff Vigliante' all of London spent Easter
weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Shaw.
Richard Anderson of Goderich, Anne
Catherine Jean of Hamilton, Sheila Ander-
son. of Waterloo, Mr. and Mrs. Rob Roy of
Lakefield and Mr. and Mrs. Rick Ball and
Matthew of Hanover visited over the Easter
weekend with their parents Mr. and Mrs.
Ross Anderson.
Easter services
The sanctuary of Knox United Church was
decorated with Easter lilies for the sunrise
service on Easter Sunday morning
A large congregation was in attendance
when the Youth Group members conducted
the service under the leadership of Rev. and
Mrs. John G. Roberts.
• Following the service approximately 90
people enjoyed a hearty breakfast:
A prelude of piano and organ Easter selec-
tions was presented by Mrs. Howard Morton
and Mrs. George Procter on Sunday -morn-
ing.

Canada has raised $3,7 million for Ethiopia
and Africa Relief. On December 6th, the
League of Red Cross 'and Red Cross ('res -
cent Societies (LRC'RCS 1 announced an in-
ternational appeal of SFR 128 million I $
CDN 67 million) for its 19£15 famine relief ac-
tivites in Africa. Necessitates by the. rapidly
deteriorating situation in many countries
throughout the African Continent, the ap-
peal is intended to extend i,RCR( S
assistance to 1.5 million famine victims in 14
.ountries
in 1985. This brings the total ap-
eal for 1985 Africa activities to $200 million.
Addressing the international community

General, said, "The problem in Africa is not
a 15 -day wonder but rather a 15 -month
operation which could well last 15 years..
That is the enormity of the challenge facing
the League."
As well as providing relief to hundreds ot
thousands of famine victims, League of Red
Cross and Red Crescent Societies' opera-
tions in Africa•include a strong development
component.
Canadian public support of International
Red Cross relief assistance in Africa has ex-
ceeded $3 -million. In Ontario, $1.4 million
has been raised through public donations.

CLINTON - In Monday afternoon euchre,
Leila Johnston and Vera Gibbings took the
high hands with Gladys Hoggarth and Jack
Brown winning the low hands. Ernie Brown
took the most lone hands with Grace White
winning the prize for the lucky chair.
