Are you in favor of the sale of liquor lander a dining lounge license for consumption with meals on licensed premises? Ar you in favor of the sale of liquor under a lounge license for consumption on the premises? Il't years ago March 25, 1885 The old St. Paul's Church school house was knocked down to Mr. D. B. Kennedy for the sum of $20.00. It is an old-fashioned heavy square timber frame with wood enough in its structure to make hall a dozen modern balloon frames. Mr. Frank Elliott, son of Mr. Lewis of Goderich, pased through Clinton, Wedned- say, on his way to Texas, to join the grand army of "cow boys." Frank looked quite nobby in his cords and Wellingtons. In a few weeks Frank will be entitled to dub himself C.B. with all the initials imply. Mr. Swarts, of Clinton, goes along. They had their glass! A good grit was disappointed in not seeing a rush into Clin- ton to observe the eclispe of the sun, Monday of last week. The good country folk who were in town were surprised to overhear staunch Scott Act men say to their friends: "Will you have a glass?" Even our friend Searle had his "glass" in honor of the event. The body of the man Rayson, whom we mentioned last week as dying very suddenly Tuesday morning, remained warm and re- tained appearances of vitality until the following Wednesday evening. 75 years ago March 17, 1910 The eighth anniversary of the opening of this church (Wesley Church) was held on Sunday and proved to be one of the most suc- cessful ever yet held. The stormy state of the weather was somewhat of a drawback, 111 MCKILLOP MUTUAL INSURANCE COMPANY 91 Main St. South, Seaforth FULL COVERAGE Farm & Urban Properties Ken C arnni han Lavern Godkin lohn Ma wing Slanlev Mcllwain Donald McKercher Kenneth Moore N Trewartha Stuart Wilson Paul Rock E.F. Mr. and Mrs. McCaughey are not leaving Blyth because they love it not but because they love Clinton more. 50 years ago March 21, 1935 Tuesday night, the Galt arena was the set- ting for the most spectacular and thrilling 'hockey match that our Colts have engaged in this year. After a very gruelling and very even series, in which a third game was necessary, the Colts finally emerged the winners in Tuesday's game, when they won the game by a score of 3-2, the round 9-8. It will be remembered that Clinton won the first game here by .a score of 5-4, but on returning to Durham, were defeated by one goal, 2-1. Incidentally this was the first game the Colts had last in the OHA this year, and it left the round tied at 6 -all. So when arrangements were completed for the third game which was ordered played in Galt, everyone started digging up the spare nickles and dimes and took themselves off to the game, and no one was disappointed. The WA of Wesley -Willis church held their annual St. Patrick's Day afternoon tea and sale of home baking in the council chatmber on Saturday afternoon. The room, tables and booths were decorated in colors ap- propriate to the occasion, those being in charge of the bakingb oth wearing white with green caps and gllars. All offered for sale was disposed of and many came in dur- ing the afternoon to enjoy a cup of tea. 25 years ago March 17, 1960 Adam Flowers got a shock direct from the Rural Hydro Office in Clinton - it wasn't a 'short', just a few extra digits! A member of the staff telephoned to ad- vise him that a clerical error had been made in his bill for $1,550.40 for the Woollen Shop property. Mr. Flowers had looked at his bill casual- ly, thought that it was for $15.50 and put it away. If he'd read it correctly, he'd have thought that he'd been billed for the whole Bayfield system. In 1912 Clinton became a "dry" town because of a municipal vote which gained 60 per cent vote banning sale of liquor by any type of outlet. Now 48 years later Clinton electors will go to the polls next Wednesday, 10 years ago March 20, 1975 The Clinton Public Hospital could under a rejuvenation and be updating if a three t five year plan being studied by the board of directors is implemented, it was revealed at the annual meeting of the hospital board. Retiring president Bob Campbell made the prediction but could give no firm details because plans haven't yet been finalized, and all plans must be approved by the Ministry of Health, which is on a belt tightening course at present. A 22 -pound -4 -ounce Rainbow trout pulled out of the Bayfield River last November has proven to be the largest of its kind caught in North America last season. The fish, which measured 301/2 inches long with a girth of 191/2 inches, was caught by Lynn Williams of London last November 19 in the river, about a half -mile upstream from the Highway 21 bridge. 1 SIZES UP TO 7 kg FROZEN YOUNG UTILITY TURKEYS 2.16/kg 91b.
