One of the things I always enjoy in, this booklet are the pictures of ordinary people shown with fish they caught on Breck's pro- ducts. Not only are they fun to look at, but when you start to examine them, some very firm patterns start to emerge. For instance, just from reading the captions on the pic- tures, I'd know to use either Nils master plugs or Mister Twisters for bass, while Comets, Aglia's and spoons would be the choice for Brook trout. Of course, having us- ed Mepps for years, I have to admit that I already have a fairly decent idea of what to use in different situations. But, the booklet also contains a lot more interesting information. The Breck's people are distributors of Maxima line, an excellent monofilament which is also an official I.G.A.F. line ( just in case you tie into a world record). They have also developed a new knot which is designed to maximize the strength of the line, and in- structions on how to tie it are in this booklet. Most impressive, however, is their line up of new products. Since I enjoy ultralight fishing tackle, I was delighted to see the introduction of a .size 00 Aglia spinner. This little lure should be extra effective onbrook trout, as well as being just plain fun to fish with. It may take a little practice to get used to that next to weightless lure, but I'm convinced that it's going to be more than worth it. I've mentioned the Variable Geometry spinner before, and it's proving very popular under the trade name Switchblade. This spinner lets the fisherman adjust the surface size of the spinner blade so it can be easily adjusted to fish at varying depths under different conditions. It really is a design which is years ahead in advance- ment, so if you see one, give it a try. You won't be disappointed. Ever since Breck's linked up with Mister By Steve Cooke Twister, they've been coming up with some super combinations. Mister Twister jigs are now available, not only with their original spinner blade, but also with the V.G. Swit- chblade. And again, there is finally a jig for the ultralight fisherman in the form of a Mepps Comet spinner coupled with a tiny black plastic eel. In fact, this combination is available in several different sizes and is equipped with a special "keeper style" hook which is practically weedless. It's probably the first spinner design that can be fished successfully in those weedy bays where the big ones hang out. And, another brand new line is the famous Norwegian "SOLVKROKEN,' lures. These heavy lures should be great for trolling or big water fishing where distance casting is desired. The lure design is unique, and as far as I know, has never been seen in Canada. It is one of Norway's most famous and most popular baits however. Another first is the series of SOLVROKEN landing nets. Solvkroken has developed a unique telescopic system which, together with non -corrosive materials and exclusive design, has resulted in a quality product that is bound to secure a dominant position on the market. The design and shape of the net ensure that it can be quickly brought into action with one hand. A slight pressure on the lock- ing slide allows the net to close into a com- pact package for easy carrying. Available in three sizes, there is one to suit everyone's needs. I could certainly go on with the Nils Master, the Lusox, etc., but I'd better leave something for you to read about in the booklet. For your copy of the Breck's Fishing Guide„ write to Breck's, .P.O. Box 604, Sherbrooke, Quebec, J1H 5K5. It's sup- posed to cost a dollar, but Jean. Paul Daigle said that if you mention my name, he'll send one'out to you,for free.
