More than 100 wide eyed children watched the wonderment and magic of Toronto's Lam-
poon Puppet theatre at the Vanastra Recreation Centre on March 14. The internationally
known theatre performed The Princess in the Iron Tower. The play, based on a European
folk tale, used a special concept, shadow puppetry to tell the story. Shown here are Johan
Vandergun and Marjanka Vrabcova and shadow puppet The Evil Sorcerer.

You can't argue with a man who will eat his own cooking. Bill Taylor, owner of Willy's
Burger Stop on Highway 8 West, gets ready to sink his teeth into a Willy Burger with all
the fixings after personally cooking it. Willy's is Mr. Taylor's first restaurant, and
although he has nine employees, he does the majority of cooking himself. He opened the
Burger Stop because he felt Clinton, needed a take-out place. ( Anne Narejko photo)
Musician with vision
produces awe in crowd
By Janet Tench
I'm still in awe.
By some twist of fate I was in Lgndon
when Gowan was ' playing at Bumpers.
Naturally 1 dashed down there..
I asked Gowan about his album, Strange
Animal. This is his second album and it's do-
ing much better than his first. By sending
producer David Tickle demo tapes Gowan.
won the producer's heart. Tickle had Gowan
fly to England, work with Peter Gabriel's
back-up band and record in Ringo Starr's
home studio.
Next, about Gowan himself. What in-
spired him to write the song "A Criminal
Mind"? The musician'explained that he had
an experience with a'prisotl guard. The man
told him about a fellow to and out of jail for
20 years, then showed Gowan a picture of
him. "It,was the look on his face."
Besides being a poet of this kind of vision,
Gowan is an excellent musician. He has a
degree from the Royal Conservatory of

Toronto in piano. He cites as his influences
Yes, Genesis, and early Elton John.
.And finally ... please welcome to the stage
...Gowan. The applause was strong. With hi-.
first song "Cosmetics", he established the
mood for the evening. His stage presence is
unbelievable, he's got spunk, he dances
while playing the piano, he leaps all around
the stage, he maintains eye contact, he
plays off his band (Bob McAlpine - guitar,
Peter Nunn - keys, Phil Michaels - drums,
Terry Gowan -'bass), and he's got the nicest
tenor I've ever heard.
Gowan's entire show never slowed down.
He gave the band a break at one point, by re-
maining at his Yamaha organ, playing
Beethoven, Joplin, and Little Richard. But
he never stopped the showmanship. His
peformance made Prince look kittenish, and
rivalled Bowie. •
Afterwards, Gowan was almost choked
up. "I'm knocked out with the response."
He's in awe too.
