CLINTON NEWS -RECORD, WEDNESDAY, MARCH20, 1985—Page 9
lips honor the Dutch people
By AD Welch
CLINTON - This year marks the Diamond
Jubilee of the Royal Canadian Legion and 60
years of service to communities and the
country. The theme to be used throughout
our Jubilee is "Pride In Our Past - Faith In
Our Future".
The Royal Canadian Legion has long
established a philosophy of service for
needy veterans and their families. This
assistance has always been provided with a
compassion and generosity unparalleled by
any other service organization. In recent
,years, terms of reference have been
extended to include community, youth and
senior icitizens. The contribution to the
worthy icau'ses over many years of service is
an ac complishrnent to be proud of.
The Dutch people who still.remember that
it was mainly Canadians who freed their
country in 1945, show their gratitude each
Remembrance Day by placing flowers on
•eac'h of the many thousands of veteran's
graves in Holland. This year, -to help the
legion celebrate its Diamond Jubilee, the
Dutch people have offered to ship a
multitude of special tulip bulbs to Canada in
the fall of 1985 so they can bloom as, large,
blood. red tulips in the spring of 1986. As
Canadians, we wish. to, show our gratitude
and appreciation to them for the loving care
and attention they continue to bestow on
veteran's graves by a 'show of public support
in beautifying homes, parks and places of
business with a host of Legion tulips.
Please help celebrate the Diamond
.Jubilee by purchasing the Legion tulips. All
bulbs are to be inspected by Canadian and
Dutch inspection services prior to delivery
in the fall. All orders must be placed before
May 15th, 1985 to ensure delivery prior to
fall planting.
Members at '.ranch 140 Clinton thank
everyone for their help in the past, and look
forward to continued support in the future -
especially in support of this very worthy
cause - the Diamond Jubilee of the Royal
Canadian Legion.

Presidents honored
CLINTON — The Huron Fish and Game
Club was host to many of the past presidents
and members of the executive on Saturday
evening. The annual President's Banquet,
combined with a St. Patrick's Dance, was
well attended and many members and
guests were present for dinner prepared by
Joyce and Jerry Cook.
The_highlight of the dinner was the small
but meaningful ceremony to burn the mor-
tgage that the club has carried for several
years. Over the last year many of the club
members have worked in a lot of ways to im-
prove the financial position of the club. This
dinner showed just how successful their ef-
forts have been. Thanks to all who helped.
The club appreciated it.
Look for a much more active membership
in the future as the Fish and Game Club is
coming on strong!
Surnmerhill Ladies
SUMMERHILL - The March meeting of .
the Summerhill Ladies Club was held at the
home of Jane Van Spengen with 16 members
present.
President Lorna opened the meeting with
a reading on The Shamrock.
A thank -you was received from the Ellis
family.
A donation is to be forwarded to the Cana-
dian Red Cross. An invitation to prepare a
room display at Goderich Township's 1-5-0
celebration in July was accepted; the com-
mittee in charge are Lorna Ellis, Ruth
Jenkins, Evelyn Merrill, Phyllis Tyndall
and Sandra Westerhout.
All were invited to a bridal shower for
Wendy Tyndall in the hall on March 24.
Phyllis invited everyone to her daughter's
wedding reception on April 6.
For the program, Ruth Jenkins conducted
a plant contest won by Hazel Watkins. Vera
Gibbings asked the members to compose
words using the letters in Saint Patrick. Lor-
na Ellis won this contest. A reading entitled
"Simplicity" was read by Vera. The April
meeting will be held at Jean Vodden's. Ver-
na Gibbings, Olive Neal, and Evelyn Merrill
will be on program and lunch. The roll call is
