Qntario Hydro is nearing the end of its
study to define the prospective powerline
routes from the. Bruce Nuclear Power
Development to London and Sheila
Lawrence of the provincial corporation at-
tended the Feb. 4 Bayfield council meeting
to inform council of work to date.
The representative also informed council
of an open house in Clinton March 13, with a
preview for municipalities before the
general public ii,accommodated.
Hydro has located between two and three
corridors, each one to three concessions
wide. This phase precedes the final decision
of route identification which should be pro-
duced in late February or early March.
The study of the corridors which places
them within a few miles of the Huron
coastline, is just one area being studied to
transport power from the Bruce NPD and
the second plant due to come on line before
1990.
Other areas under consideration include a
stretch from Bruce to Essa and another
from the power development to Milton.
The public information meetings are one
method Hydro will rise to let the public know
about the potential routes which will later be
considered at a hearing established by the
province.
Councillor Jim Quick asked Mrs.
Lawrence about the possibility of burying
the cable. She responded that due to
technical problems, the price per kilometre
jumps to between $10 and $20 million.
Reeve Dave Johnston said Hydro had at-
dro work
tended county council to inforrin gIllnigllpel
representatives about both the op..n hpuses
to be held in the near future and the routes
being investigated throughout the county.
"I think Ontario Hydro is going overboard
in letting the public know," said Reeve
Johnston.
"I wish I could get that quote," replied
Mrs. Lawrence, referring to the problems
the power company experienced bringing
the original route plans, which went trough
Bruce County, to the provincial hearing
judging the advisability of Hydro's goals.
The reeve pointed out that members of the
general public will not be concerned about
the line "until it's placed in their backyard"
a difficulty the corporation has already con-
fronted.

While the snow flakes dance through the
air increasing in volurne and intensity in
proportion to the vagaries of the wind,
Bayfield residents resolutely go about their
business - well, not quite all. A few have
succumbed to the 'flu bug.
The first stages run the usual course of
such afflictions, fevers, shivers, headaches,
coughs, sniffles and aching joints. Wriggling.
around in bed trying to find the right spot,
clutching handfuls of Kleenex, streaming
eyed 'and husky voiced, one can't help
feeling like a combination of all the cold
cure commercials - without the St Bernard!
Then gradually the symptoms begin to
subside, and now comes the next stage.
Drained, crumpled, the post 'flu down point
is reached. One feels fretful, . unable to
concentrate, and a look in the mirror does
nothing to . boost one's ego -. or does it?
Disgusted with that almost unrecognizable
reflection the stirrings of shreds of self
esteem begin to establish themselves. It's
a real effort to take those first steps, but it's
also satisfying.
But, it's not over yet. The second wave of
despair comes with the realization of all

The reason for sweethearts being linked
with St. Valentine are rather obscure.
Martyred in the third century there is
nothing to link the good bishop of Terni with
such romantic legends. One theory is an old
idea that it was noted that Feb. 14 was the
date on which the birds began to pair, or it
might even have an older pagan source.
