(Anne Narejko photo) WI to study health concerns By Betty McCall WALTON - WI Convenor Mary Humphries will have Mrs. Kate Moriarity speaking on Mental Health at the February 2 meeting of the Walton Women's Institute at the hall. Anyone is welcome to attend the meetings. The Institute held , a successful noon luncheon last Wednesday. The next luncheon is scheduled for February 20. " Birthday time • Supper guests February 3 with Ken and Judy Shortreed and family were Earl Watson; R.R. 1 Blyth; Bill and Louise Smith of Mitchell and Isablle Shortreed of Walton in honor of Amy Shortreed's third birthday. Euchre held Tuesday night euchre sponsored by the W.I. was held in the hall with three tables in play. Not a very big'crowd but all reported a good time. Winners were high lady - Alberta Stevens; low,- Mary Humphries; high man - Lavern Godkin;l low Harold Bolger; Special - Leona McDonald. The next euchre party will be held Feb. 19, Duff's United Rev. Charles A. Swan conducted the Worship Services at Duff's United and Bluevale United on Sunday. Greeters at Walton were John and Janie McEwing. Organist was Margery Huether. Ushers wer Paul McCallum, Brian, Wilbee, and Ray Huether, Serving Communion were Edith Wey.; Emerson Mitchell; Bruce 'Clark; Ray Huether; Graeme Craig and Ken McDonald. This Sunday the Walton Public School choir will be guests to sing for Youth Sunday. Council budgeted $62,800 for road con- struction and maintenance for 1984, but ac- tually used $71,192, over spending by $8,392. A total of $22,089 was spent on constryyction with $49,103 going towards roadside maintenance and hardtop and loosetop maintenance. This figure also includes, winter control expenses, (sanding and plow- ing), and safety ekpenses. The resurfacing program was also included • in the costs, New can.dleho causing an expenditure of $20,644. Council expected to receive $31,400 in grants, but ended the eight month period with $35,596. A $10,322 grant was received for the resurfacing program, plus $722 for overhead, $11,044 was received for con- struction and a $24,552 grant was received for maintenance. Of the five sub -categories included under the maintenance category, roadside maintenance expenditures ran the highest at $16,283. Councillor Bill Manning question- ed the figure, but was told by Clerk Walsh that it was the highest last year as well. 'It all adds up. The goals and objectives for the church for 1985 which had been decided upon at two previous meetings were• presented by Dick Poore and accepted by the congregation. The co -chairwomen for this year are Lorna Fraser and Bonnie Shannon. This year's garage sale will be heli on Saturday, May 11 at 10 a.m. The auction will begin at 11 a.m. A lunch booth will be available. A new feature for the tenth annual garage • sale will be an auction of local merchants donations at 11 a.m. The teen club has also been asked if they would like to participate in this year's sale. Selling rags was such a profitable venture • last year, that the committee decided to col- lect rags again this year. If you have any old cloth items suitable for rags, please leave them at Wilson's Health and Gift Store in Blyth or the Blyth United Church Narthex before March 27. At cards this week Five tables of Lost Heir were played last Wednesday evening in the Blyth Memorial Hall with the winners as follows: High Lady: Mary Holland; Low Lady: Mary Walden; High Man: Alvin Snell; Low Man: Millar Richmond. Five tables of euchre were played on Mon- day evening in the Blyth Memorial Hall. Dinner brings neighbours together By Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse BELGRAVE - The Belgrave UCW hosted a pot luck supper for members, families and friends of neighboring churches on January 3,1. President, Mrs. John Roberts, welcomed everyone and Rev. John G. Roberts asked the blessing. Following the meal, the worship service, which was conducted by 01'ive Bolt and Mrs.. Bert Johnston, opened with a reminder of the beauty of autumn now buried under the snow. Mrs. Johnston read two poems. Scripture reading relating to Faith. Was from Hebrews. Hall, Belgrave starting with a Pot Luck dinner at 12:30 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Mayberry and family of Londesboro, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Procter and family and Mrs."Beth Procter visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Zettler and Sherry of RR 4 Walkerton last weekend. Mrs. Beth Procter remained at this home for the week. Mrs. Beth Procter visited on Sunday with - Mr. and Mrs'. Larry Mayberry of Londesboro. Regular schedule over The Blyth Industrial Hockey League regular schedule is over with Mannings finishing on top with an impressive' 13-1-1 record. On Feb. 10 Mannings scored three times in the last two minutes to edge Watsons 8-7. Wayne McDougall led Mannings with three goals and singles went to Derwin Carter, Scott Stevenson, Randy Nixon, Gary Courtney and Dave Errington. Watson scorers were Steve Nixon with three and Terry Pierce and Mike Malliot each with two. In other action, Hubbards•scored five first period goals and went on to defeat Radfords 10-3. Brad Bromley and Brian Bromley each scored twice for Hubbards, along with Bob Szusz, Brent Andrews, Terry Rutledge, Tom Black, Ray Riley and Bruce Bromley. Ken Ritchie, Bruce Howson and Darryl Youngblut replied for Radfords. In the other game, Baintons scored four third period goals to double Blyth Inn 64. Doug Shiell scored three times for Baintons, Barney Stewart added two and Don 'Shiell closed out the scoring.
