Euchre held Tuesday night euchre sponsored by the W.I. was held in the hall with three tables in play. Not a very big crowd but all reported a good time. Winners were high lady - Alberta Stevens; low - Mary Humphries; high man - Lavern Godkin; low - Harold Bolger; Special - Leona McDonald. The next euchre party will be held Feb. 19. Duff's United Rev. Charles A. Swan conducted the Worship Services at Duff's I United and Bluevale United on Sunday. Greeters at Walton were John and Janie McEwing. Organist was Margery Huether. Council budgeted $62,800 for road con- struction and maintenance for 1984, but ac- tually used $71,192, over spending by $8,392. A total of $22,089 was spent on construction with $49,103 going towards roadside maintenance and hardtop and loosetop maintenance. This figure also includes winter control expenses, (sanding and plow- ing) , and safety expenses. The resurfacing program was also ,included in the costs, New candleholders a focus of worship The February 10 service at Blyth United Church opened with a gospel sing led by Cheryl Cronin. The new candleholders which were dedicated last Sunday are a beautiful addi- tion to the focus of worship in the sanctuary. Rev. Bauman spoke on the need to let God be in complete control of our lives. The Senior choir sang under the leadership of Margaret Kai. The greeters for the morning were Ray Madill and John Blake. Ushers were Mildred and Stewart Ament, Jeff Howson and David Sperling. The service concluded with two remaining items of business left from the Annual Con- gregational Meeting of. January 28. The goals and objectives for the church for 1985 which had been decided upon at two previous meetings were presented by Dick Poore and accepted by the. congregation. More social events, opportunities fordiscus- sion and visitation were among the ideas highlighted. Garage Sale set to go The garage sale committee of the Blyth United Church Evening Unit held their first meeting on February 5 at the home of Lorna Fraser. The co -chairwomen for this year are Lorna Fraser and Bonnie Shannon. This years garage sale will be held on Saturday, May 11 at'10 a.m. The auction will begin at 11 a.m. A lunch booth will be available. A new feature for the tenth annual garage sale will be an auction of local merchants donations at 11 a.m. The teen club has also been asked if they. would like to participate in this year's sale. Selling rags was such a profitable venture last year, that the committee decided to col- lect rags again this year. If you have any old cloth items suitable for rags, please leave them at Wilson's Health and Gift Store in Blyth or the Blyth United Church Narthex before March 27. At cards this week Five tables of Lost Heir were played last Wednesday evening in the Blyth Memorial Hall with the winners as follows: High Lady: Maty Holland; Low Lady: Mary Walden; High Man: Alvin Snell; Low Man: Millar Richmond. Five tables of euchre were played on Mon- day evening in the Blyth Memorial Hall. Dinner brings neighbours together By Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse BELGRAVE - The Belgrave UCW hosted a pot luck supper for members, families and friends of neighboring churches on January 31. President, Mrs. John Roberts, welcomed everyone and Rev. John G. Roberts asked ' the blessing. Following the meal, the worship service, which was conducted by Olive Bolt and Mrs. Bert Johnston, opened with a reminder} of the beauty of autuariQ now buried under the snow. Mrs. Johnston read two poems. Scripture reading relating to Faith was from Hebrews. Mrs. Beth Procter visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Larry Mayberry of Londesboro. Regular schedule over The Blyth Industrial Hockey League regular schedule is over with Mannings finishing on top with an impressive 13-1-1 record. On Feb. 10 Mannings scored three times in the last two minutes to edge Watsons 8-7. Wayne McDougall led Mannings with three goals and singles went to Derwin Carter, Scott Stevenson, Randy Nixon, Gary Courtney and Dave Errington. Watson scorers' were Steve Nixon with three and Terry Pierce and Mike Malliot each with two. In other action, Hubbards scored five first period goals and went on to defeat Radfords 10-3. Brad Bromley and Brian Bromley each scored twice for Hubbards, along with Bob Szusz, Brent Andrews, Terry Rutledge, Tom Black, Ray Riley and Bruce Bromley. Ken Ritchie, Bruce Howson and Darryl Youngblut replied for Radfords. In the other game, Baintons scored four third period goals to double Blyth Inn 6-3. Doug Shiell scored three times for Baintons, Barney Stewart added two and Don Shiell closed out the scoring.
