Mr. Moore has been a rancher for many
years, raising Arabian hooses and sheep and
winning first prizes with the animals at
numerous shows in Edmonton.
Mr. Moore was part of the "wild west"
and has an excellent recollection of his
younger years as he tells of experiences he
and his older brother shared. The tales he
has to tell about the winter weather and the
way of life back then makes one wonder how
he has managed to stay as fit and lively as
he is today. However, Mr. Moore is not sure
whether he is capable of writing another
book, even though relatives would like him
to write about his family's trip from Ontario
to Alberta.
As MrnMoore reads a paragraph from his
book, it is evident that he is proud of his
accomplishments, and that he has worked
hard so he could share a part of his life with
others.
Frank Moore. shows cousin Gwen O'Rourke his latest book, "Nixon Homesteads and
other short stories" while visiting in Vanastra., The 95 -year-old former Mitchell resident

VANASTRA - Perseverance paid off for
Frank Moore. He never gave up on his
dream to have his written work published in
the form of a book. In fact, his dream has
been fulfilled three times.
The 95 -year-old former Mitchell native
has published three books over the last three
years, and his latest book, The Nixon
Homesteaders and other short stories has
been chosen by the British Columbia
Library Board to be taped for viewing by the
blind.
Mr, Moore moved with his family to
Daysland, Alberta in 1898 and is back in
Ontario for a month to visit with his
relatives.
"Relatives are good for helping me sell
books," he laughs.
Mr. Moore's true life experiences since he
moved west is what his first book, Beyond
the Second Mile is • based on. He wrote the
book in the late 1940s but couldn't find a
company which was interested in publishing
it. Finally in 1982, Initiative Publishing
House, Inc. published Beyond the Second
Mile.
Later that same year, Mr. Moore had his
second novel published. The Ranch People
is a story about life in 1882, "a few years
before my time," commented Mr. Moore
who was born in 1889.
This novel didn't take as long to get
published as it was written in 1981 and
published the following year. It tells the
story of a young boy growing up with
randiers and is basically fiction.
Mr. Moore's final book to date, The Nixon
Homesteaders and other short stories was
published in 1983 by Camrose Job Press Ltd.
in Alberta. The stories printed in this book
were written at different times in Mr.
Moore's life. In one story, the 95 -year-old
author turns back the hands of time and
writes what he believes would go through a
young boy's mind.
Mr. Moore started his writing career by
writing articles for newspapers but until his
first book was published, he was still
considered an unknown author by
publishers.
Mr. Moore is not a typical 95 -year-old
explains cousin Gwen O'Rourke of
Vanastra.
"The last time he got thrown off a horse he
was breaking, he was 82 -years -old. Then he
got back on again and got thrown a second
time. When I asked him why his bones didn't
break, he said they were made of rubber,"
she laughed.

Program
to raise
confidence
Are people "born leaders" or is leader-
ship a skill that anyone can develop? We
think it is a skill and participation in 4-H is
one of the best methods available to develop
this skill.
Therefore, new for 1985 is the 4-H Leader-
ship Project. The project will boost
members' confidence as they: learn about
leadership styles, working with others and
public speaking,
Leaders,' training workshops. will be in
March, with the clubs organizing in early
April. If you are interested in leading this
club; or are between the ages of 12'and 21
years of age, and would like to join a
Leadership Club, call the Agricultural Of-
fice in Clinton..
