BLYTH - In order to meet expenses, coun-
cil will be increasing sewage rates at the
end of January by five per cent a month.
Clerk Larry Walsh explained that the 1984
operation charge was $78,656 plus $2,707 ad-
ministration charges for collecting the bills.
The 1985 operation charges will be $82,589
plus approximately $3;200 administration
charges, which is an increase of five per
cent.
For residents, this will mean a monthly
sewage rate of $16.98 in 1984 will be increas-
ed to $17.82.
"This proposal is to meet the charges
rather than di ping into the reserve fund.

Cable TV lease signed
By Anne Narejko
BLYTH - A lease has been drawn up that
will allow the Seaforth and Mitchell Cable
Television Company to set up their opera-
tion behind the storage sheds -on Mill Street.
The land, which is jointly owned by the
Public Utilities Commission and the Village
of Blyth, will be rented to the company for
$1,200 a year.
In November, representatives of the com-
pany asked council for permission to set up
their dish in this location so they could see if
the quality of reception was satisfactory.
Representative Jack Ward informed council
that the site is quite acceptable and they
would like to rent a piece of land, 25 feet by
35 feet, as well as a 15 foot right of way on
the northern part of the land, for the propos-
ed price.
The lease states that the land will be leas-
ed for $1,200 for five years, with the lease to
be negotiable at the end of that time period.

Old fashioner) fun at sleigh party
By Melda McElroy
Sleigh bells rang out throughout the
streets of Blyth for one hour or more last
Sunday afternoon.
People fortunate enough to be out or look-
ing out beheld 15 horses, sleighs and 'five
cutters filled with happy looking
passengers. Once of Huron's horsemen's
events, not advertised, was taking place for
the first time in Blyth.
The ride started at 1 p.m. on the premises
of Dr. Ken Jackson and son Graham where
horse trailers, trucks and cars were parked.
It ended at the same place where the 50 or
more sleigh and cutter riders enjoyed a
social time in the Jackson home. Mr. and
Mrs. Nelson Marks of Walton assisted in'
serving'doughnuts and coffee to the crowds.
The' first stop was at a village /restaurant
to pick up Swinging Seniors who might have
responded to an informal invitation to a
sleigh ride, extended at their last meeting.
No one showed up. Good use was made of
the track at the Agricultual Park, where
winter's expanses were appreciated and the
side streetsof the village, where children
here and there with looks of longing were in-
vited to jump on, and they did.
Some of the Blyth and area people enjoy-
ing the sleigh ride were Don and Marjorie
McNall; Cliff Shobbrook and Wayne Allan;
Shirley, Julie i and Dean Shobbrook; and
Robert and Sherri Marshall.
The sleigh of Dave Carson and family of
Listowel was drawn by a team of registered
Belgian horses. A team of registered Per-
cherons was driven by owner John Lyons of
Summerhill who brought his wife Helen and
family along for the ride.
From Belmore came Mrs. Edna
McKague, her son Jim and family, two
single cutters and Morgan horses.
Participating from Walton district were:
Mr.Ken Shortreed and family with their
team of Belgian horses; Mr. Tom Leeming
and friend with, ,cutter and a Tennessee
Walker driver; and Mr. and Mrs.Jack
Nelemans and .itamily -with. quarter horses
on their sleigh and a standard bred on the
cutter.
The Jacksons had Commercial horses
pulling their sleigh and an Arabian, the cut-
ter.
Blyth residents appreciate the pleasant.
• surprise that made the village come to life
on a January Sunday afternon; that gave 20
of their young fry a thrilling time;' and
adults a refreshing ride, with the best look-
ing driving horses in the country at the
helm. And so they wish this horsemen's
fraternity great success in all their
endeavours.
