Smallest tree in forest becomes first Christmas tree
Once thereeas a large forest full of big,
beautiful trees. These trees were all pine
trees and had big pine cones which were
perfect for house decorations. All the time
people came to the forest to get trees for
furniture in„ their houses. The person who
owntd the forest, Jacob Malfa, was a nice
old man. He hired people to go in and cut
trees down, then he would sell them.
In this forest, there lived a small tree. He
was a very sad tree also. The reason for this
is; he was so small nobody would ever take
him as wood for building. He was sure of this
because he knew people would rather have
something tall and straight and thick than a
small, skinny tree.
All the big trees around the little tree were
perfect for building so the grove was often
invaded by humans. When this happened,
Sentinel and Guardians, the two lookouts, •
would sound the alarm and the trees would
stop talking out loud and start whispering.
I'm sure you've heard the trees whisper
before. I hear them every time I go into the
woods. People tell -you it's the wind in the
leaves but I know better.
In the little grove where Little Pine (the
small tree) lived there were nine other
trees. These were Sentinel, Guardiana (who
I mentioned before), Rolwindla,
Snowmantle, Bay Leaf, Long Bough, Rustle
Leaf, Pine Bark and Bird Resp. Rolwindla
was the leader. Snowmantle was named
after his habit of catching snow on his
branches. Bay, Leaf was. named after the
color of her leaves. Long Bough was named
after his long branches. Rustle Leaf was

And if I got tired, do you know what I'd do?
I'd go back home and have a little snooze.
If I were a reindeer do you know what I'd
do?
I'd fly through the sky and pull Santa's
'sleigh!
,And if I got tired, do you know what I'd do?
I'd stop and make the other's pull, too.

If I Were An Elf
If I were an elf,
Do you know what I would do?
I would cast a spell on me or you!
If I were an elf,
You would say, "Who are you?"
'I3ut 1 would reply,
"How are you?"
If I were an elf,
I would be so neat
And I would be a king,
named after her habit of talking too much,
making the rustling sound you and I hear.
Pine Bark was named after the qualities of
his bark and Bird Rest was named after the
fact that the birds always rested in his
branches. Little Pine was named after his
size. Little Pine was also the oldest.
Little Pine would watch as most of his
friends were cut down and taken away. His
best friend, Green Tree, had been cut down
just the month before, and Little Pine was
still very sad. But; he had just stayed put,
year after, year. This year, Little Pine had
hoped to be used for a table, chair or sofa,
but no such luck came his way.
Finally, it was Christmas Eve. All his
friends had been cut down and he was once
again lonely. Everyone was hanging up
their stockings or jltmping in bed, thinking
about Santa Claus. Little Pine was just
getting sleepy when a shadow fell over him.
There was a sleigh and nine reindeer just
landing beside him. A short, fat man jumped
out and stood beside eight' normal reindeer
and one with a red glowing nose.
"Hello Little Pine!" the fat man (who was
Santa of course) said joyfully.
"Uh, how did you know my name?" Little
Pine asked.
"I know everyone's name. Oh, by the way,
I would like you to meet some of my friends.
Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet,
Cupid, Donner, Blitzer and Rudolph. Say
`Hello' guys."
"Hello," they said.
"Hi," replied Little Eine.
"If you have nothing better to do, I was
wondering if you would like to take a ride
wahine in my sleigh," Santa commented.

Christmas Wish
I wish I could have a wish for the poor

"Sure! Are you going to use me tor
furniture?" Little Pine asked eagerly.
"No. Actually, I was planning to use you
for an outdoor lamp. My elves are too tired
to make one so I want you for one. You will
be full of lights and decorations. Also, you're
just the right size for me." +r.,,
"Oh boy! Let's go now!" Little Pine
exclaimed.
"All right, jump in."
Surprisingly enough, Little Pine found he
could move. He jumped into the sleigh and
utf they flew. When they reached the North
Pole, Little Pine was once again planted.
Then Mrs. Claus, Santa and many elves
came and brought candles, colored balls,
strands of colored ice (tinsel), and a very
large star at the top that Santa had plucked
out of the sky.
They decorated the tree. It was a beautiful
sight with the candles, colors, and the star
shining on top. Santa put it right out in front
of his house.
So now you see, this is the story of how
Little Pine became the most famous tree of
all. He became the first Christmas Tree!
