The cat sat up and stretched her claws and extended her little pink tongue.
"There was nothing there last tune I looked, but still the night is young."
From time to time the cat and the dog circled around the tree,
But when they returned to their place on the mat sadly they had to agree,
Although there were gifts for Mum and D,ad, and all
Betchildren tyet
Search as they might they just couldn't find a gift for pet.
Sadly they curled un together. The family at last went to bed.
The stockings were hung on the mantel. "We're forgotten," the animals said.
But Santa had not forgotten. The children had written you see:
"We've a dog and a cat, our special pets. They'd like something under the tree."
So when Santa filled the stockings, before he went out of the door
He paused at the tree and added two gifts for the sleepers on the floor.
When the children came down in the morning, and the parcels were spread on the mat,
P .There was a beautiful bone for the dog, and a catnip mouse for the cat!

Contrasts
PEACE ON EARTH, TO ALL GOODWILL
Tho' gunfire echoes round the hill
SPARKLING LIGHTS AND CHRISTMAS BELLS.
Famine, anguish, dried up wells:
CAKES AND CANDIES, GINGERBREAD
Mock the starving and the dead.
CRACKLING LOGS AND GLOWING FIRES.
Flesh decayed and funeral pyres.
ANGELS SINGING HYMNS OF GLORY,
News reels with their tragic story.
WISE MEN FOLLOWING THE STAR.
Appeals for help from near and far.
REJOICING AT THE SAVIOUR'S BIRTH
Yet confronted here on earth
With man's ineptitude, dissension
Grief beyond our comprehension.
LET US, WHEN WE KNEEL TO PRAY
RECALL THAT OTHERS, FAR AWAY
NEED OUR HELP, SUPPORT AND PRAYERS
FOR THE ANGUISH THEY SUFFER IS NOT JUST THEIRS.
Hunger, famine, death and drought,
Disaster, bereavement and pain.
These are the pictures we can't shut out,
W m t m . - m : They recur again, and again.

What are we doing to share our ease,
Our lives of comfort and care?
Isn't it time we denied ourselves,
Haven't we something to share? ,
Giving is not just writing a cheque
Or collecting from those that thrive.
Giving is going without ourselves
That others may yet survive. .
Do unto others as you would they
Might some day do for you
Isn't enough - if you really care
Give of your own self too.
The Christ child's birthday every year
Reminds us, and each other
That in giving, denying our selfish aims
We treat all men as brother.
So, now that Christmas time is here
Let's forget about status, and price
And give with hearts that are warm and free.
Let US make a sacrifice!
