( Anne Narejko photo) Atoms take Stratford with convincing 7-1 win On December 11 the Clinton Atoms took on the Stratford Minor Atoms in an exhibition game and came away with a convincing 7 -1 triumph. Clinton opened up a 4 - 0 lead after one period with. Darrell Lavis scoring the first goal assisted by Jason Carter. Scott Jewitt made it 2 - 0 as Mark King set him up on a beautiful lead pass. Shaun Chipchase, who has been playing by far his best hockey of the year,' scored the next two goals. Mark Livermore and Scott Shaddick helped set up Chipchase's first goal, but the second Chip - chase goal was unassisted. In the second period Stratford's. Todd Mc(.;ann spoiled Robbie Marriage's and Derek Hoggarth's shutout with the only goal o �f the period. Clinton scored three unanswered third periodgoals to round out the scoring. Mark 1 ivermore's tenth goal of the seasonwith the assist going to Darrell Lavis, made it 5 - 1 early in the period. Two minutes later Scott 1(athwell, with his second goal of the game ,t;cide it 6 - 1. Darrell Lavis, again, was the playmaker on the goal. Danny Wildfong scored on a rebound shot for' Clinton's final ;cure. In the first period at the 3:27 Mark, Clinton's Mark King scored when he was set up beautifully by Shaun Chipchase and Scott. Wright. Three minutes later Shaun Chipchasemade it 2 - 0 on an unassisted effort as he skated in all alone and his wrist shot found the upper left hand corner. Chris Kennedy scored the only goal of the second period as he scored on a nice wrist shot from directly in front of the goal. Danny Wildfong and Mark Livermore drewthe assists. In the final period Shawn Chipchase scored his second goal of the game to close out the scoring. Clinton outshot Zurich by a 21 to seven margin. Clinton 2 - Elma-Logan 0 In Clinton on December 15, in a close tight - checking hockey game, by far the best game the Atoms have played this year, the Clinton Atoms on two third period goals outlasted the determined team from Elma-Logan winning 2 - 0. Both goalies, Derek Hoggarth and Robbie Marriage performed brilliantly in the net. The Elma-Logan goalie did likewise. After two scoreless periods, Darrell Lavis scored what proved to be the winning goal. It was set up when Scott Jewitt fed a pass into the corner to Jason Carter. Carter's return pass to the slot area where Lavis was gave Clinton the insurance marker. The shutout was Hoggarth's and Marriage's third of the season. The Atoms next game was last night ( Tuesday) in Lucknow. Their next home game is December 22 at 3:15 p.m. against I.ucknow. He had so mach fun at the December 8 ,Christmas Party that he has decided t return to Clinton on Sunday, December 23 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Clinton Arena. Santa will be glad to talk with all boys and girls about their Christmas. Candy bags full be handed out to all children. See you at the Clinton Arena. Bring your camera! Free Public Skating In the spirit of Christmas, the Clinton Recreation Committee is sponsoring a Free Public Skating Party on December 24 (Christmas Eve Day) from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Come out and join the crowd! The Clinton Kinette Club is also sponsor- ing a Free Public Skating Party on December 27 from 1 to 3 p.m. Treats and refreshments will be provided to all youngsters. Join the fun at Clinton Arena. Christmas Break Program The Clinton Arena will be busy with a special Christmas Break Program Schedule from December 21 to January 6. Activities will include a Santa Claus Visit, Free Skating Parties, Patch Time, Shinny Hockey, Public Skating and the Junior "C" Hockey Tournament. For schedule informa- tion contact the Arena 482-7731 or the Recreation Office 482-3398. Junior "C" Hockey Tournament Attention Hockey Fans! The fourth An- nual Junior "C" Hockey Tournament will be held December 27, 28, 29, and 30 at the Clin- ton Arena. Six Junior "C" hockey teams, in- cluding our own Clinton Mustangs, will be participating in this exciting hockey event. .The tournament hours are as follows: Thursday, 8 - 10 p.m.; Friday, 7 - 11 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. -10 p.m.; Sunday, 1 p.m. - 11 p.m. The Tournament will feature breakfast and hot meals. This program is a nice afternoon away from the house, and is an ideal form of personal fitness. You can register now or the first class on January 14.
