Pears and peace, dancing and drumming ® newstyle carol
Christmas is a precious time for families,!
Let's take a hint from the traditional
English carol "The Twelve Days of
Christmas" and journey together to
Epiphany - rejoicing and remembering one
of God's special gifts daily by eating a
specific food and performing an appropriate
activity.
On The First Day Of
Christmas My Truelove
Sent To Me
A PARTRIDGE IN A PEAR TREE -
Following a picnic supper on the floor
around the Christmas tree, eat fresh pears
for dessert (with this lovely Christmas
Carol playing in the background).
TWO TURTLE DOVES - The dove is a
symbol of peace..., so make peace with so-
meone with whom you have disagreed, and
make a paper dove to hang on your
Christmas tree as a prayer for world peace.
THREE FRENCH HENS - Serve Cornish
hens - or your favorite chicken dish for din-
ner tonight, and learn to sing your favorite
Christmas Carol in French.
FOUR CALLING BIRDS - Feed the birds
today (build a bird feeder if you don't have
one). Pray for God's tiny winged creatures
and vow to feed them daily throughout the
winter.
FIVE GOLDEN RINGS - Make doughnuts
or popcorn balls and take them to someone
who is shut-in or lonely today.
SIX GEESE -A -LAYING - Beat eggs and
mix up your favourite egg-nogs. Serve
before bed with a prayer for a Happy New
Year!
SEVEN SWANS -A -SWIMMING - Take the
family swimming if facilities available, if
not, go skating. Read "The Ugly Duckling"
(who grew to be beautiful and graceful) and
talk about God's beautiful surprises of new
life corning in the New Year.
EIGHT MAIDS -A -MILKING - Visit an ice
cream store and enjoy your favorite ice
cream cone. Talk about the gift of milk and
cream from God's cows, where cows live,
and the Holy family who shared a stable in
Bethlehem so long ago.
NINE LADIES DANCING - Dance to your
favorite music, and read a story "Dance in
the Desert" by Madeleine L'Engle
(Available from your local Public Library).
Give thanks for the joy He brings us!
TEN LORDS -A -LEAPING - Go on a fami-
ly jogging expedition (even ifit is just
around the block!), Then give "The Lord of
the Manor" his favorite dinner ... giving
thanks to our Lord and SAvior for the gift of
life!
ELEVEN PIPERS PIPING - Play (on any
instrument) and sing your favorite
Christmas carols together (including, of
course, "The Twelve Days of Christmas").
TWELVE DRUMMERS DRUMMING -
To announce your "Epiphany Party" to
• celebate with your family and friends the
end of a loving, busy, wonder -filled
Christmas and the beginning of Epiphany
and our mission to the world to spread the
light of His love to the world around us!
