Students prepare best breakfast ever
CLINTON - On Nov. 9„ the Grade 6 Clinton
Public &b..' .class got up bright and early
to have breakfast together in tbe gym of the
80601.
In October they had a popcorn sale to
make some money for groceries for the
breakfast. They made $33.00.
On Thursday students walked.up town and
shopped for some groceries. Everyone was
on their best behavior as they, went up and
clown the aisles selecting the best buys and
reading the labels carefully.
Early Friday morning students helped
Mrs. Brodie, Mrs. Lee, Crystal and Billy
cook the toast, bacon, sausage and eggs. At
8:30 a.m. everyone sat down to a delicious
breakfast. I was so full I could hardly wig-
gle. Everyone agreed it was the best
breakfast they ever had.—by Mark Harris,

Humour In The Classroom
or Biblical "Truths”
Ronald Reagan might be interested in the
fact that Zachaeus, the tax collector was a
republican.
Did you know that the "passover was
when the Israelites crossed the Red Sea on
dry water"?
In another interpretation, they crossed
the Red Sea on bear ground.
A little known "fact" is that "nowadays
the mothers have the babies, but in Biblical
times the fathers had them." This impres-
sion is probably given by the genealogies
-where the fathers "begat".
One of the wisemen gave a coffee pot to
Jesus at his birth.
An interesting caption to an illustration of
Jacob's consecrating at the rock at Bethel
read as follows "Jacob constipating the rock

Weather
One day I went out,
Do you know what I found?
1 found a snowflake,
upon the ground.
I took that little snowflake,
I took it in the house,
I put it in the fridgharader.
I looked into the frigdarader,
In a hour,
or two,
There was nothing there!
Oh, my, what did I do?
Did I give it to much water?
Did I give it to much sun?
So just sat there crying.
Where's my dear dear snowflake?
And want have I have done!

The frost is colder,

different.
With greater success this season, the
senior girls hope to have an even stronger
team next fall. With four of the five starters
returning next year and five other key
players, as well as a few good juniors, CHSS
promises to be one of the top teams in
Huron -Perth action.
Finishing the season, celebrating four
wins, (four more than last year), and six
losses, CHSS earned sixth position in the
Huron -Perth standings.
CHSS defeated Mitchell, St. Marys,
Norwell and Listowel throughout the season
and endured close losses against Stratford
Central (35-33), Wingharn (38-35), Seaforth
(58-49) and Exeter (41-33). Other great
losses were suffered against Stratford Nor-
thwestern and Goderich, two top teams in
the conference.
The ClintOn team consisted of Lori
Bechtel, Chris Botermains, Jennifer
"Clynick, Carol Ann Connell, Sandra Faber,
Mary Gibson, Christa Lehnen, Jackie Nor-
man, Diane Nyman, Carole Roorda, Monica
Speziale,-Jacqui Taylor and Lisa Watt. This
has been one of the largest teams for CHSS
senior girls and hopefully this enthusiasm
will stay in years to come.
Writing improves
After nine years of testing the English
language proficiency of first year students,
the University of Waterloo reports steady
improvement in their ability to express
themselves in writing.
According to Dr. Ken Ledbetter, UW
English professor and director of UW's
English Language Proficiency Prograrn
(ELPP), the percentage of first year
students failing the test has dropped
steadily. In • 1976 — the first year it was
administered — ahnOst half (47 per cent) of
those who wrote failed: This fall only nine
per cent failed. For most (53 per cent) of
these who failed, English is their second
language.
UW provides a Writing Clinic for students
who fail the exam; at the end of the term (in
December) they will sit the exam again. A
satisfactory .level of proficiency in English
is required for a degree in arts.
At the time the, examination results were
annOunced, Dr. Alan McLachin, supervisor
of the ELPP, announced awards to the. top
students writing the test. They included
Denise Connelly, a graduate of GDCI.
