NEWFOUND PATRfO-TISM.
In his reference to the tariff issue
at Strathroy, Premier Ross advocated
a tariff suitable to Canada. "I don't
mind, he said "if the Anaericans like it
it or not. We have nothing to do
with the Americans except • to keep
them on their own side of the fence."
Premier Ross backed up Mr. Tarte
strongly in his war upon the •Domin-
ion Cabinet. But he was equally
strong in his rupport of Laurier and
Cartwright when those doughty
knights where out for commercial
union as the only salvation of Canada.
• He was for making this country in
every commercial sense "a part of the
continent to which we belong." As

feel that in losing you we are losing
two who were always held in the high-

On this the eve of your departure we
cannot let you leavens -without show-

that your company has always been
appreciated bv no. We therefore ask
you to accept this chair as a token of
our respect for you. We trust that
you will not keep it for its intrinsic
value alone, but that when you have
occasion to use it you will recall many
ot the pleasant associations you had
with us in WincheIsea. In saying
good-bye to you we can assure you
that you carry with you our very best
wishes and we wish you health. and
