inert win tball game in last four minutes
- The MSS Redmen .ried
their second -season win in football on Oc-
tober 4 *lien they defeated Norwell 2644.
"The game was a lot closer than the score
indicates," commented coach Ken Reidy.
"We didn't play that well, we were just
lucky to win."
Norwell scored the first touchdown but
their kick-off was recovered by Austin Roor-
da who "ran the ball back for an .85 yard
touchdown. Darryl Hoegy scored the two
point conversion to tie the game at 8-8.
Norwell then scored the next touchdown,
but were unable to get the convert, making
the score 14-8.
Austin Roorda threw the ball to Travis
Lyndon for another six points for the
Redmen. Doug MacLean scored the two
point convert on a pass from Don Hearn for
a 16-14 lead.
The Redmen capitalized on a Norwell
fumble with Mike Powell tackling the ball
carrier and knocking the ball loose. David
O'Rourke picked up the !fumble. Roorda
later scored from the one yard line and the
Redmen scored another two point convert.
Finishing the scoring for the Redmen was
Mike Powell as he got a safety touch.
Coach Reidy was impressed with the play
of Roorda and MacLean as he felt his team
was out played until the final four minutes.

This fall, Miss Twiss, who has been
teaching English and Art at CHSS, decided
to rest for two months as she is not well
enough to continue her teaching. Mrs.
Wilson is `taking over her classes at the mo-
ment. We do not know yet if Miss Twiss's
absence will be temporary or permanent.
She will decide after two months of rest
whether she is well enough to come back or
not.
Miss Twiss was raised in Ancaster, near
Hamilton.. Her teaching career extends
back to 1951, a total of 33 years, although she
did not spend them all at CHSS. Miss Twiss
came to CRSS in 1972, from Hamilton, to
take over the head of the English depart-
ment. She was the head for nine or 10 years.
During her stay at CHSS, she has taught
English and art and worked as a librarian,
as well as being the staff advisor for the
ABC committee.

Senior volleyball team comes up short
By Gary Godkin
In Central Huron's Senior Boys'
Volleyball game against Stratford Central,
the team came up short. Stratford Central is
the top team in the league and they played a
strong offensive game.
CHSS played well but were plagued by
lack of height and strength. The score of the
first game was 15 - 3. The second game they
played stronger finally putting some balls
away with authority: In the last half of the
game CHSS died out and Stratford came
•
back to win the game 15 - 7.
In the second set, against St. Marys, the
Senior Redmen played to their potential.
The Redmen took two games from the
strong St. Marys team. The Redmen played
well both offensively and defensively. We
secured the lead by dominating at the net
and followed by good bumping to give the
much desired edge. The scores were 15 - 8,
15 - 8 in favor of the Redmen.
In the third set the Redmen were
frustrated by the good bumping and strong
net play of the Seaforth Seniors.
In the first game the Redmen looked as if
they were going to win but their rally was
stopped at 10 - 3. The Seaforth team came
backtowinl5-10.
The Redmen's spirits were dampened by
this stunning comeback and never did get on
top of their game in the second of two games
and lost 15 - 6. The Redmen are 3 - 9 on the
year and still have a shot at playoffs if they
can gain some confidence and start playing
more consistently. With hard work and
determination this can be achieved.
senior giris win one and lose one,
By Lisa Watt
' On October 2, the Senior Girls Basketball
team hosted the Wingham Mustangs in an
exciting match.
The first-quarter saw an even match with
both teams scoring 12 points. The second-
quarter saw much the same action, however
•
the Mustangs edged out the Redmen to end
the quarter 18 - 17. The Mustangs pulled
away after half-time to end the third-
quarter 30 - 23. The Redmen, however, made
a quick recovery in the last quarter,
outscoring Wingham 12 - 8 to end the game
at a 38-35 defeat for Clinton.
\October 4„the Redmen travelled to Strat-
ford Northwestern vd#iere they came up
against a very quick, aggressive team los-
` ing 91- 26. The Huskies, however, are likely
to be in the top three teams in Huron -Perth
this season, so a loss to this team was no sur-
prise.
We will all miss her at CHSS and hope that
she will get well soon and be able to take up,
her position again as a member of the CHSS
faculty and continue being an active
member of the community. •
