The Donainion fruit inspector at
Winnipeg has sent to the Depart-
ment of Ageieulture at Outaeva a box
-of apples ta,ken from the middle of a
=consignment of apples shipped to
Winnipeg by an eastern firm. The
apples were described by the shipper
as "fancy 'Canadian apples." The ,
specimens Benet° the department are ,
svery.poonquality indeed. Twenty of
them weigh only twenty-eight ounces.
'Twenty hetils eggs of good average ,
tsize would weigh forty ounces. It is
too bad that sentario fruit is being
)hipped to the excellent markets of
Manitoba and the North West Terri-
tories in this manner. It is killing
the trade out and playing directly into
the hands offtuit growers and shippers ,

Strong representations are being

that October 23rd may be the date

The Hanailton Herald utters a time-
ly warning on the subject ot typhoid,
the season for which is about due.
The warning is for cleanliness in all
food and drnak. To contract typhoid
fever you must swallow the typhoid
germs, and therefore the disease is
almost always conveyed by means of
food and drink; but it is quite prob-
able that the germitself may he bred
in food and water through contact
with putridity in some form; hence
the necessity for:cleanliness. In the
typlaoid season, says the Herald, it is
not less important to he tareful aboat
the food supply than it is to guarcl.
against a contaminated water supply.
Yet Dr. M. A. Veeder, of Lyons, N. Y.,
has jest been ventilating the theory
that typhoid fever may come from
other sources than water supply,
Probably the )inciet important point
made by Dr. Veeder in his address is i
that which relates to the history ofe
the typhoid bacillus living in the!
ground. kt servives there, he sage,
just as succesefully as it does in water,
perhaps even more so and the bengal
of typhoid material in the earth with-
out adequate disinfection is, he says,
the sureet way of perpetuating the
disease in any given locality. Vege-
tables eaten raw, dust blown by the
wiedeandifiles, are among tbe Tavbrite
method of transportation of the germ,
an absolute disinfection of the tylihoid
material is the only sure means of
preventing the epreading of the dis-
ease.

Consumption
The only kind of constimp,
tion to fear is "neglected
consumption."
• People arelearaing that con-
sumption is a curable disease.
It neglected consumption
that is so often incurable.
At the faintest suspicion of
consumption get a bottle of
'Scott's Emulsion and begin
regular doses.
The use of Scott's Emulsion
at once, has, in thousands of
eases, turned the balance in
favor of health.
Neglected consumption does
not exist where Scott's Emul-
sion is.
Prompt use of Scott's Emul-
