NEW SOVEREIGN BANK BUILD-
ING.—It seems an opportune time just
now, when the whole country is teetn-
ing with prosperity, and. showing such
proof of the substantialty, of that
name which we are all so proud to hear,
—Fair Canada,—to set forth here, the
share that our little town Of Exeter
has had in the growth. Exeter has
long been noted as one of the most
substantial towns in Western Ontario,
and. situated as it is in the centre of
the finest farming section in Boron
County, the Banner county in the
Province, it is well able to hold its
own. While tzeter has not been vis-
ited with booms etc, it has always en-
joyed a steady and healthy growth,
dating from the opening of the Lon-
don, Huron and Bruce branch of the
G, T. R. and it has yet a still brighter
outlook for future prospeeity. Our
town has always enjoyed the repute -
tion of having among its merchants
the most enterprising, up -Co -date, busi-
ness men, as well as best appointed
stores and stocks, to be found in thel
province, The Sovereign Bank of
Canada, realizing the solidity of the
place, and its people, secured the
premises they now oceupy, on the
corner of Main street and James street
opposite the Central Hotel, and have
begun business, The plans and speci-
fications were prepared by the well
known firm of architects, messes.
Moore &Henry, 'London. The Build-
ing which was at first intended for a
store, has been so re -arranged and
renovated by Mr. Thos. Fitton, as to
present a very handsome. appearance,
and to naalte one of the most modern
Banking Offices, in the Dominion.
The corner has been remodelled so as
to render easy access from either Main
street or James street while the whole
appearance of the corner block has
been greatly added too, by this
arrangement. The heavy oak •doors,
fitted with plate glass whereon are
carved the business hours of the Bank,
present a pleasing exterior, setting off
the corner to fullest advantage. In-
side the building has been fitted up in
the most approved manner, for an up-
to-date Bank, and the London Show
Oase Works, to-gether with Messrs.
Ross & Taylor who had the contract
for the fittings, have excelled themsel-
ves. The whole interior is beautifully
finished in antique oak, and is unsur-
passed in quality and appearance. The
heavy oak counters, monnted by a
handsome railing of antique copper,
with teller's covered cage, is second to
none. while the smaller desks for use
of the public, and the sett% serve to
make the office one of the best equip-
ped and most convenient, in Ontario.
The floor of the pdblic office and the
Manager's room is covered with.in-laid
linoleum, tile design, and gives a
most pleasing effect. The vault and
desks behind, are fitted up in the most
approved fashion, and the room at the
back of the building has been arrang-
ed as a sleeping a,ppartment for the
officer on guard. The whole building
has been so beautified by Mr. Fitton
as to make it a decided credit to our
town, while the adyent of the Sove-
reign Bank, whieh started out last
May on a career that promises to be
imbued with unbounded success, is
certainly something of which our town
may well be proud. The manager;
Mr. F. E. Karn and the accountant,
Mr. A. P. Smith are both well known
in this commanity having been for
two years with the Molsons tank at
}tense% and it is needless to say that
anyone doing business with the Bank
will receive prompt and courteous
treatment. The advertisement of the
Bank may be seen in another column.
