Hunting show set for September
Hunters! The third annual Hunting Show
is coming up at the International Center in
Toronto. The dates and times are Friday,
September 7, 1 - 10 p.m.; Saturday,
September p, 10 a.m. - 10 p.m.; and SLnday,
September 9, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. There is a
great line up of events planned, and over 150
exhibitors will have their products on
display.
One of the booths you should be sure to
stop at is the Bowmac Gunpar Ltd. display.
With the hunting season just around the cor-
ner, it's a great chance to pick up those last
minute items,4nd have a close look at some
new products. Bowmac Gunpar Ltd. will be
featuring their neTBeaverwax Collection, a
line of raingear designed with the hunter in
mind. These' jackets and accessories are
made from waxed Egyptian cotton to last
for years and are specifically cut to keep
you dry in the most torrential downpour.
They are also designed so they will not bind
when the arms are lifted to mount a rifle or
shotgun, something that most outdoor
clothing manufacturers never seem to think
of.
Constructed, as I said, from tough waxed
material, this style of jackets will last for
years (20 year' old waxed garments in the
field are not uncommon) and can be re-
treated if they start to lose their waterproof
qualities. They don't tear easily, but if they
ever do, they can be repaired or patched. All
the jackets feature triple stitched, fully seal-
ed seams, warm cotton plaid lining, storm
cuffs, flaps and pocket closures. The most
popular style is called the Lancastrian, a 3/4
length coat, but it also comes in an excellent
Camo (great for duck hunters) and a
shorter jacket called the Trent. Other styles
are available as well.
The thing I really like about these jackets
is that they have a distinct "European flair"
to their styling which lets you use them
about town and city without drawing odd
looks from passersby. In fact, if anything, it
will turn heads because it does look a little
rakish and stylish and tends to make the
wearer look like your classic English coun-
try gentleman. Take a good look at these at
the show. If you buy one, you'll be able to
forget about rain gear for a long, long time.
I don't often get too excited about new pro-
ducts, but this is one which has my tired old
blood racing. ..
Bowmac , will also. have the latest in
Weatherby rifles on display, including the
new lightweight 'Fibermark series. Fine
•
guns are 4ways nice to handle, and
Weatherby ij long been recognized as the
Cadillac in tli firearms industry.
For the (k)1 ck powder oters, C.V.A.
guns will be tozi display, so u can get a
good look at them. These replica of all the
old favorites are well made and nicely
finished as well as being surprisingly ac-
curate. They would be a good bet for deer
hunters in our district, as even the poorest
muzzle loader will win hands down over 99
percent of shotguns with slugs. Again, it's
something to look at while you're visiting
the Bowmac booth at the Hunting Show.
And also while you are there, you can
view: a reloading seminar, a taxidermist
display, an archery demonstration, trapper -
hunter 'workshop, wildlife display, and
much, much more. In fact, there will be so
much to see, it will be very difficult to cover
it in one day. Have fun there, but give
yourself lots of time . or you'll be disap-
pointed. .

New Jerky Recipe Booklet
Jerky doesn't have to be thin and rock
hard. In fact, many outdoor people are sear-
ching for ways to cut and preserve jerky in
other than the traditional manner.
"They would like to make jerky,, but
they're tired of the shoe -leather type," ex-
plains Glenn Helgeland, publisher and co-
author with his home -economist wife Judy
of a new 12 -page booklet titled `Tasty Jerky
Recipes for Everyone'.
This booklet answers that need in several
ways: 1) It gives instructions on cutting
meat to three different thicknesses - called
Forever Jerky, Week -and -a -Half Jerky and,
Gone -by -Tomorrow Jerky (judged by the
quickness a batch of it is usually eaten) - for
individual preferences,. palatibility and
tastes; 2) tells how to cut meat for various
uses and results; 3) gives electric oven, gas
oven and smoker instructions; 4) gives
meat marinating tips; 6) offers several
recipes for mild, sweet, spicy or no -sodium
results.
•
In additions the booklet includes extensive
tips. and comments for . before -smoking
during -smoking, and after -smoking pro- "
cedures.and practices to get the most flavor-
ful results.
`Tasty Jerky Recipes for Everyone' is
available from Glen Helgeland's Target
Communications, 7626 W. Donges Bay Rd.,
Mequon, WI, 53092 for two dollars.
