She was 78,7008 4d, The former Jennie A>sif der Haar was born in Averiest, HoIlagid on January 17, 1906. Her parents were Herman and Geertje Auf der Haar. After coming to Canada she lived in Holmesville and was a member off the Clin- ton Christian Reformed Church. She was. married to John Stryker. He predeceased her in 1974. Mfrs: Str'yke is survived by two daughters, Mrs. John (Grace) Bakker of Goderich and Mrs, George (Minnie) Sjaar- da of Norwich, and three sons Henry of Breslau, Herman of Holmesville and Kurt of Seaforth. Also surviving are three sisters, Marie Brand of Wallaceburg, Dina,Strampel and Everdina Auf der Haar, both of Holland, and one brother, Berend Auf der Haar, also of Holland. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral services were held on August 22 at the Clinton ,Christian Reformed Church Mr. and Mrs. David Stephenson David Gordon Stephenson of Brussels and Annette Wicks of Clinton were married at the Brussels United Church on July 7 by Rev. Charles Carpentier. The groom is the son of Gordon Stephenson and Nora Stephenson of Brussels and the bride is the daughter of Barry and Maxine Wicks • of Begin, Saskatchewan. Matron of honor was. Shelly Jorritsma of Brussels and bridesmaids were Dianne Stephenson of Kincardine and Sharon Kleinknecht of Lin- wood. Kristy Jenkins of St. Agatha was the flower girl. Best man was Randy Beuer- maim of Brussels and guests were ushered. into the church by Doug and Donald Sholdice of Brussels and Jim Wicks of Regina, Saskatchewan. A reception was held in. the Brussels, Morris and Grey Com- munity Centre in Brussels and the couple honeymooned at Gery Rock's Resort in Quebec. The newlyweds are living in Brussels. Beattie Funeral Home in Clinton was in charge of the funeral arrangements. Edith E. Pickard . Edith E. Pickard of 197 Albert. St., Clinton died at Huronview on August 22. She was 76 - years old. She was titern in Tuckersmith Township on June 22, 1908 to Adam and Sarah Glazier. In October, 1926, she married C. Elwin Pickard in Holmesville and the couple lived in Goderich Township, Dundas and Clinton. In Clinton, Mrs. Pickard was a member of the Ontario Street United Church. She was predeceased by her husband who died in 1974. Surviving are: two daughters, Mrs. Jim (Joan) Chalmers of Blyth and Mrs. Leslie ( Lois) Armstrong of Goderich; two sons, Don of RR 4 Clinton and Roy of Clinton; one sister, Mrs. Asa (Gertie) Deeves of Hensall; one brother, Harold Glazier of Clinton; 20 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. . Mrs. Pickard was predeceased by: two daughters, Catherine and Mrs. Gordon (Margaret) Eastman; three brothers, Alfred, Herb and William; one sister, Mae Butts; one grandson, Brian Armstrong and one son-in-law, Leslie Armstrong. Funeral services were held on August 24 at the Beattie Funeral Home in Clinton. Rev. Norman Pick from the Ontario Street Church officiated. Interment was held at the Clinton Cemetery and pallbearers were Fred Radley, Gerald Hunking, Rob Smith, Derek Stephenson, John Talbot and Larry Beiber. Myrtle Fairservice One of Londesboro's best known residents, Myrtle Matilda Fairservice, died at Clinton Public Hospital on August 21. The 89 -year Huronview resident had been a Well known Londesboro resident for many years. She was involved in several com- munity groups and was a member of the Londesboro United Church Women and the Women's Institute. She was also a -member. of the Londesboro United Church. She was born on March 6, 1895 to. Thomas Knox Mair and the former Jemimah Brown in Goderich Township, - Mrs. Fairservice attended high school in Clinton, then went to Normal School in Stratford for training as a teacher. During ,her career she taught at Grand Bend, Porter's Hill, Hullett Township as well as in other areas until she married, - In September, 1932• she wed Robert A. Fairservice and they raised two children, a son, David of Dollard des Ormeaux, and a daughter, the late Anne Fairservice. •-• Along with her daughter, Mrs: Fairservice was also predeceased by her husband, by one sister, and three brothers. Sheis survived by one brother, David Mair of Detroit, Michigan. •. Funeral services were held at Ball and Falconer Funeral Home in Clinton on August 24. It is planned to hold the 1986 reunion in the Clinton area. w to stayin Clinton CLINTON The Wingharftioffice of the Ministry of Natural Resources,:has renewed. its sponsorship with Katinnavik for a second nine month period,.Clinton will -continue as a home for the participants until at least May of 1985., Katimavik, as many townspeople know, is a youth volunteer organization funded by the Secretary of State. It is a unique program open to all young people between the ages of 19 and 21. Participants spend three months in three different locations across Canada. In each of these locations they do volunteer work for a sponsoring organizationand become involved in local community events. A new Group Leader, Dwight Morley, will also be starting at this time. The past seven months in Clinton have been both enjoyable and successful for Katimavik. Dwight hopes to keep up the involvement of the group' with the community and to maintain the good rapport built up by previous Katimavik groups. The Katimavik house remains at 139 High Street. Anyone in the town or surrounding area interested in learning more about the program is invited to stop by or telephone 482-3960. THINGS TO COME Young girl baptized at St: Andrew's On Sunday, August 26, at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Clinton, Stassi Nichole, daughter of Gary and Faye, MacKay was received into the fellowship of the Church through the Sacrament of Bap- tism. Parents who wish to watch their children at the Clinton Pool can now do so in comfort. The Xi Epsilon Beta chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, donated three benches to the pool recent- ly. ( Anne Narejko photo) Wedding decor created HURONVIEW - August 20 was games and craft day in the activity room, and here residents play cards for the most part, while others knit and do various crafts. During the morning, all participants enjoy coffee and cookies. A time of relaxation was planned outdoors for residents of Special Care on Tuesday. It is a pleasant hour for them, to be out in the fresh air and sunshine: Autumn weddings are being planned, and for some of the brides-to-be, ladies were kept busy on ;August 22 making pink and white paper flowers from Kleenex. They are. used for car decoration.AAnother Craft -that •1 is being Made are fans: They are constructed of bristol board, in different sizes and colors. The fans are quite attractive; and may be used for any decor. The mid -week Bible Study was held on August 23, conducted by Mrs. Prouty who also led in the singing of the. hymns. Pat Thurlow read the scripture lesson. There was a time of prayer followed by a Bible quiz. A flannelgraph was used for the study period. Friday evening Olive McMillen, Leah Currie, Clayton Steels, Annie McNichol, Emma McDonald, Golda „ Tyler, Mary Vancamp, Elsie Henderson, Frank Bissett; Margaret McLaughlin with Jane Ladd and Pat Fields attended the play "Nostalgia" presented in The Livery at Goderich. It was produced through -a student grant for Experience '84. The cast consisted of local, talented students who acted,. 'sang and danced their way into the heart of everyone. It was a delightful, refreshing show. • Morning worship washeld on Sunday, with Reverend Pick in charge. During the service, the choir sang. Huronview welcomes Mr. Frank Kloskowicz and his wife Anna from Clinton, who have come to reside at Huronview.
