On July 7 at the Whitechurch United Chur-
ch, Janet Elaine Laidlaw and Donald
Wallace , Nicholson exchanged wedding
vows. The bride is the daughter of Ivan
Laidlaw of RR 3 Wingham and the late
Cecelia Laidlaw. The groom's parents are
Mr. and Mrs, Wallace Nicholson of RR 2
Blyth. Rev. Wilena Brown officiated at the
wedding ceremony. Matron of honor was
Beverley Beyersbergen of RR 2 Lucknow, a
friend of the bride. The bridesmaids were
Kimberley Laidlaw of RR 3 Wingham, the
bride's sister, and Heather Hackett, of
Listowel, a friend of the bride. The flower
girl was Melissa Snowden of•RR 2 Lucknow,
a friend of the bride. The best man was the
groom's brother, Gary Nicholson of RR 2,
Blyth and ushers were Steve Webster of
Seaforth, a brother-in-law of the groom and
Ray Ulch of Dungannon, a friend of the
groom. Ring bearer was Ryan Webster of
Seaforth, the groom's nephew. A supper and
reception followed the ceremony at the

tournament held at Dungannon.
.. Blyth Pirates and Nesbitt's, Drainage
were eliminated after three games in ,the
tough "B" Division. Blyth In ,atinosJ made
it: two "A" championships in two yehrs•
Blyth, Inn made it to ttte;` `A" final burwere
edged out 10-9 by the,Lucknow ucknow Six -Skaters
and had to settle for the runner-up trophy
Meanwhile the Blyth Slo-pitch league is

Ht>wSo ilditls. ilre tied for first with only
rthree losses apiece. Meanwhile,
• urkbolder's, Marnoch, Knights, and
Belgrave have lost only four games. The
• rest of the standings were unavailable at
press. time. The top four teams will playoff
fart the "A" crown. The playoff tournament
ill be held on September 15 in Blyth. Keep
this• date open as there will be plenty of ex-
citing ball played,on this date.

Squirt girls win tourney

After a very successful year of. seven
wins, one tie and two losses the Blyth Squirt
Girls went on to win again. The girls have
been involved in an Intertownship League
including teams from Goderich, Goderich
Township, . Colborne, Stanley . Township,
Auburn, Londesboro and Vanastra.
On August 24 and August 25 the girls were
involved in a final. tournament. All teams
gave an excellent showing with Goderich
No. 1 winning the "B" division over
Vanastra and after an excellent game Blyth
winning the "A" division over Goderich
Township No. 2.
Congratulations to all of the players and
coaches for their fine effort and great sport-
smanship. During the tournament home
runs were hit by Jennifer Allen, Tanami:
Medd, Kim Medd, Cathy McDonald, and
Krista Lawrie for the Blyth team. The
pitcher -catcher team of Kim Medd and Jen-
nifer Allen were very successful in striking
out many batters.
This, alnng with the many skilled plays of
the infielders and outfielders proved t� be.
the winning combination which the girls
have been working very hard to achieve.
Congratulations areextended to the Blyth
Squirt Girls.
Ball wins and losses

The Blyth Peewee boys township league
participated in a playoff tournament this
past weekend in Holmesville.
They were victorious in their first game
against Stanley Township. The final score
was 14 to 9. They went on to lose their second
game against Goderich Township II ,by a
score of 7 to 1 thus putting them out of the
rest of the playoffs. The boys worked hard

Bantam girls began their playoffs on
August 22 against Winthrop. Blyth won the
game by a score of 14 to 5. Michelle Cronin
hit two home'runs'and Connie Hoggart hit
one.
In their second game played in Blyth on
August 27 Blyth lost to Winthrop by a close
score of 8 to 7.

Rev. Howlett stresses world work

Rev. David Howlett, District Secretary
for the Canadian Bible Society, was the
minister at the -Blyth United church on
August 19. The large number of people pick-
ing up literature on display in the Narthex
was evidence of the motivation in Rev. •

Swinging Seniors

The August meeting of the Blyth Swinging
Seniors took the form of a dinner at the Tri-
ple K Restaurant on August -22. •
Thirty-five members enjoyed the boun-
tiful roast beef meal. A few later took in the
theatre presentation of Country Hearts.
The ' next meeting will be held on
September 26 at the Memorial Hall.

than ever, and as always the congregation
followed suit. Marjorie McNall was at the
organ.
• Among visitors attending. Was a group
from Michigan who had taken in the Blyth
Festival performance the night before.
Greeting worshippers . were Gordon
Carter and Mary Wightrnan; and ushers
were Ralph Caldwell, Mary Hoonard and
Melda McElroy.
Personals
Marion Wright, Helen Sanders, Nora Kel-
ly and Melda McElroy attended the Clinton
Horticultural Society's annual Flower Show
last Friday. The spacious cafeteria in the
CHSS lent itself beautifully to the effective
display , of a wide variety of plants and
flowers.
Belgrave'.s...oidest'lacIydies
Amelia Lucretia Brown
Belgrave's oldest citizen, • 100 -year old
Amelia Lucretia Brown; died in Wingham
and District Hospital on August 20 following
a lengthy illness.
She was born a century ago, on June 14,
1884 in Grey Township. Her parents were
Teasedale Whitefield and the former Ruth
Amelia Speiran.
`Mrs. Brown was raised on the family
farm,, Maple Shade Farm, on the 14th Con-
cession of Grey Townbship. She received
her elementary education at S.S. No. 8 Grey
Township.
On December 2, 1908, at the family farm,
she married Angus D. Brown.
Mrs. Brown worked as a dressmaker. She
was actively involved in volunteer work
with the Knox United Church in Belgrave
and with the Women's Institute.
She was predeceased by her husband who
died on April 17, 1954. She was also

predeceased by one son Clifford who died. on
October 2,1956.
Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Bert (Ruth)
Johnstoh of Belgrave, a , granddaughter
Mrs. Marilyn Thompson of Goderich and
two great grandchildren, Douglas Thomp-
son of Toronto and Danny ,Thompson of
Goderich.
Funeral services' were held on August 22
at, the McBurney Funeral Home in
Wingham. Rev. Rea Grant from Wingham
officiated. Interment . followed at the
Brussels Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Edward Watson of
Blyth, Edgar •Wightman of Belgrave, Her-
man Whitfield of Brussels, Elston Speiran of
Brussels, Alvin McDonald of Brussels and
Pal Somers of Brussels. Flower bearers
were Lewis Stonehouse. of Belgrave, Karl
Whitfield of Blyth and Danny Thompson of
Goderich.
