The couple were mar- ried in Clinton on August 19, 1914. The couple Were honored at a party at their daughter's, Mrs. George Fellow's, Bayfield cottage. They were fortunate to have the whole family there, including son Dick of Windsor, five grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. The Clinton Centennial Committee's first • annual arts and craft show, held in the arena on Friday arid Saturday was a big success, according to organizers. A crowd of , about 1,000 attended and nearly $1,000 was turned over to the Centennial. Committee. More than 50 exhibitors were on hand. 25 years ago August 27, 1959 ' Decision was made by Clinton council at a special meeting .on August 24, to erect a building fol a ladies washroom and restroom immediately to the south of the library, on the parking lot behind the town hall. The building will be placed on an angle so that the large windows in the rest room will look out upon Library Park and the main street. In memory of the pioneers of Clinton and district and of the veterans who are buried in Clinton Cemetery, a memorial service was carried out there on Sunday evening, sponsored by the Clinton Legion. Prior to the service, a parade, led by the Clinton Legion (Bannockburn) Pipe Band, marched from the library to the cenotaph at the post office and a wreath of remem- brance was laid. 50 years ago August 30, 1934 The fall fairs are on and schools open next week, so it looks to be time to think of 'get- ting in thevinter supply of coal and looking • over last winter's flannel underwear. A number in Porter's Hill have suffered from an attack of the summer flu. But no serious c,ases are reported.. A largely attended and very enjoyable supper and corn roast was held under the auspices of a group of the Women's Associa- tion of the Brucfield United Church on Fri- day evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Aikenhead on the 2nd concession of Stanley Township. 75 years ago August 26, 1909 The contract was let for the new manse connection with the .Blyth ' Presbyterian Church and work will be pushed along at a lively rate. Rain on Civic Holiday forbade the holding of the horse races in Blyth. A matinee will be held on Thursday afternoon of next week when the postponed program will be put on in three classes. A five mile open foot race will be added and the LucknowPipe Band has been engaged for the afternoon. Makes Drinking Water Safe' - To protect yourself .effectually against Typhoid Fever germs, so often found in drinking water, it is now only necessary to add a little Sovereign Lime Fruit Juice to each glassful. Everybody knows that bank clerks have to rise to a certain fixed salary before they are allowed to marry. As the result of an order issued by the general manager, those clerks who happen to be employed by the Molson's Bank have had the barrier raised to get married now. The young man who aspires to enter the bonds of matrimony must now be receiving $1,200, not $1,000 as has been the case. "We are indeed sorry to hear that the salary limit has raised in the Molson's Bank as we indeed thought that a couple of our promising young men in the bank here had a serious notion, but now it is shattered." 100 years ago August 27, 1884 The Reeve of Bayfield is about to make a match with George Andrews, the fat man of the C4th Cridket Club, to run a foot race from Bayfield to Exeter. Our man might not get out of Wind, but we would not say as much about his temper. A wing of the "Lord's Army" has struck East Wawanosh at last and there is now hope for the drunkard, back -slider, Sabbath breaker etc. The d- is having a sang time, being compelled to stand a great siege from "soldiers" strongly entrenched in the Methodist Brick Church. It is truly reported, a number of "Army" sharp shooters have been doing excellent practice, and many of Satan's followers have been brought low surrendering to and enlisting in the much talked of "Lord's Army," thus proving traitors to their former' lord and master. Much has been said for and against the "Ar- my," but from what can be gleaned, they are doing good work in East Wawanosh. Many of our best citizens are taking an ac- tive part in the "bringing home" of loSt sheep, indicative of the willingness of our people to fight for the King. In peace, prepare for war. In ht weathet, prepare for cold weather. Ge x you stoves at S. Davis, Mammoth Stove Warehouse, Hardware and Tin Shop, Clinton. rit •'_'.'",'_••_.• 4. 71-1,,,,F CANADA GRADE "A" 5 TO 10 LB./ 2.2 KG.
