The Yukon is to have a member of the House of Commons et, the next ses- sion of Parliament, and the election must take place before January, 1903. Already a hot campaign is in progress throughout the territory, with "anti- Siftonisne" as the popular cry. Sifton- ism, judging by the territorial papers, is the political term for the grabbing of franchise. It is alleged that every- thing worth" having is controlled by by some Ottawa magnate, who makes money out of it. The Government has named its candidate in the person of Mr. Fred Wade; but the anti-Sifton candidate is not yet chosen. If the Yukon wishes to have its grievances exposed. and remedied it must be up and doing, for the Act wbich accords it representation also gives the Gov- ernment control of the ballot, boxes. R. H.
