NoVEL ENTERTAINMENT. -After ter a
holiday of two montbs during which
time the Epworth League of Main St.
Methodist church held its ineetings in
connection with the Theesilr v eyening
prayer meeting ilwe agtft,: osnmed
, their meetings. The first meeting held.
on Tuesday eve last taking the form
of a. social evening when. an unique
entertainment was given representing
"Days" each member wearing a badge
emblematical of "ibT1018 day" some of
them representing a "cold day" "Eas-
ter day" "sweeping day" etc. During
the evening a program was given in-
terspersed with very fine selections
from Mr. Willis Povvell's new Edison
phonograph which was greatly enjoy-
ed by all present. Refreshments were
served atter the rendering of the pro-
gram, and an enjoyable time spent.
The Yukon is to have a member of
the House of Commons et, the next ses-
sion of Parliament, and the election
must take place before January, 1903.
Already a hot campaign is in progress
throughout the territory, with "anti-
Siftonisne" as the popular cry. Sifton-
ism, judging by the territorial papers,
is the political term for the grabbing
of franchise. It is alleged that every-
thing worth" having is controlled by
by some Ottawa magnate, who makes
money out of it. The Government has
named its candidate in the person of
Mr. Fred Wade; but the anti-Sifton
candidate is not yet chosen. If the
Yukon wishes to have its grievances
exposed. and remedied it must be up
and doing, for the Act wbich accords
it representation also gives the Gov-
ernment control of the ballot, boxes.
