Kim Craig, R.R. 2 Blyth, placed4irst in
the Open Stepdance Class at the Fergus Old
Time Fiddle and Step Dance contest on July
14. -She won the Stewart Gold Jewellers
Trophy and a silver wine goblet.
This is the fourth time Kim has won this
lass. She also won the Cliff Adam's
Memorial Award for the dancer with the
highest points, finishing the weekend with
551 of a possible 600 points - highest among
all competitors.

KORRIS TWP. - Morris Township will not
graatCarriPensation for ,livestock damages
to Mrs,Eitima Bird of the sixth concession
for recent- livestock losses, since the
township livestock evaluator .reported he
could find no concrete evidence , that the
anitnalS dreelap aresult of dog attacks.
Clerk -Treasurer Nancy Michie said, in an
interview, that Mrs. Bird had reported that
two calves were chased by dogs May ,8,
causing one to become caught in a fence and
later die.
Carmen -Craig, the liyestock evalnator,
was called in to inspect the animals and
could find no evidence of a dog attack.
Mrs. Bird appealed his decision to the pro-
vincial evaluator. and he toe could find no
evidence that the animals had been chased
by dogs. The provincial evaluator visited
the Bird farm July 6. • •

In the meantrine, Mrs. Bird lost two ewes
July 12, from an alleged dog attack, A thkd
ewe died July 19, while another developed:a
breathing rattle.
However once again Mr. Craig could Old
no evidenCe.that the animals had been wig.-
ried by dogs and did not recommend that
Mrs. Bird be compensated.
Council took no further action in the mat-
,
ter.
In other business, the engineer's report
for the $52,060 Laidlaw Drain was read. The
report was prepared by Dawson and
Johnston of Stratford. The court of revision
is scheduled for the next meeting of coundil,
Aug. 29, and drainage tenders will be opened
at that meeting as well.
Morris Township Council will enter a float
in the bicentennial parade scheduled ft
Sept. 8 at Blyth, held in conjunction With
that village's Steam Thresher's Reunion.

tending the Royal Conservatory of Music
recently graduated from practical tests for
piano and singing. The examinations were
heldin.Blyth in June.

The application still must go before the
county land division committee which May
uphold East Wawanosh council's decisiontor
grant the severance.
In other business council received a $3,779
Wintario grant for the playground project at
the Belgrave ball park. The money was for-
warded to the Belgrave Kinsmen, a local
service group that undertook the project.
Council received and approved five
building permits at last week's meeting:
John Kryzanowski, Lot 30, Con. 1, a house;
Maitland Valley Conservation Authority, a
portable classroom at East Wawanosh
park; Schultz Brothers, Lot 36, Con. 3, a hay
barn; Frank Hallahan, Lot 40, Con'. 5, a steel
granary; and Lloyd Michie (representing
the Belgrave Kinsmen), a picnic pavilion at
the Belgrave ball park, subject to Depart-
ment of Labor approval.
Councillor Don Schultz declared a conflict
of interest on the building permits since he
had applied for a permit.
East Wawanosh council will enter a float
in the Sept. 8 bicentennial parade at Blyth,
held in conjunction with the village's steam
threshers' reunion.
Fire hall
construction
WINGHAM,- Work is underway on a new
fire hall across' from Cruickshank Park in
Wingham, with completion planned for mid
to late November.
The contract for the new building was
awarded to Carl Reinhart of Teeswater at a
net cost of $223,740.99. This was the lowest of
six tenders received on the building.
Plans call for a structure of insulated steel
with three double bays as well as offices and
• equipment and meeting rooms.

in grade 3 piano. They are: Krista Rathwell,
Patricia H. Bos and. Vanda Lynn Cardiff.
The students with honors include: Nancy
Webster, Heather Wheeler, Kara Leigh
Hiltz, Selena A. Hazlitt, Sherri McLachlan,
Myra Postill and Vicky Uhshall.
Angela Jane Orr , received first class
honors in Oracle 1 piano with Scott. Edward
Allen picking up honor's.
Vicky Hackett was the only singer and she
passed Grade 4 with honors.'

ticipating municipalities according to a for-
mula which has been agreed upon, with'.
Wingham, Howick and Turnberry picking
up the lion's share.
A number of local .subcontractors were
• successful in obtaining work on the building,
with Burke Electric and LeRoy Jackson
Plumbing and Heating of Wingham 'getting
the electrical and plumbing subcontracts,
while Hodgin's Home -All will supply
materials.
Fiddler takes
Shelburne win
EXETER - Gerry Smith of Exeter was
crowned intermediate champion at the
recent Canadian Open Oldtime Fiddlers'
contest in Shelburne.
This was the 15th consecutive appearance
for Smith at the Shelburne event which is the
top fiddlers' contest in all of Canada. He was
accompanied on the plane by his daughter
Linda.
The local father and daughter,
combination has just returned from
fiddlers' contests in Ednrionton, Alberta and
Kelowna, British Columbia where they each
won trophies.
