1974 marks 25 years of the County Junior
Farmer Association in Huron. Many 'Junior
Farmer clubs have existed in Huron'as far
back as 1920 and they are still going strong.
Tentative approval was granted Tuesday
in Toronto by the Ontario Municipal Board
for the new $1 million. Maple Leaf, Milling
Plant in Tuckersmith Township, four miles
east of Clinton, half a mile from Highway 8
on the farm of Henry Klaver.
The subcommittee charged with making
recommendations to the Huron Power Plant
Committee reports that they are pleased by
the announcement by Ontario Hydro to
suspend the plans to build a nuclear
generating station in Huron County.

Dr. E. Kirk Lyon, Leamington, has
brought honor to Hullett Township where he
grew up, to Clinton District Collegiate where
he attended secondary school, and to his
family. His mother, Mrs. Lyon, lives in the
village of Londesboro. When the Duke of
Edinburgh, Prince Phillip, was installed as
- president of the Canadian Medical,
Association in Toronto earlier this summer,
the Prince turned over the active duties of
this position to Dr. Lyon. Present at the
event were Dr. and Mrs. Walter A. Oakes,
Clinton.
The last work party to be called by the
Clinton Community . Swimming Pool
Building Committee was a resounding
success on Monday night..About 50 workmen
turned up and the complete project of laying
cement sidewalks around the pool and to the
bathhouse door was finished.
Staff holildays for the Clinton News;-

The Thursday evening open-air band
concerts in recreation park the last two or
three weeks have been well attended and
much enjoyed. The new band stand is set
about half way between the old and the new
grandstand and the music can be heard well
from either by those .who .waik out to the
park while there is plenty of parking space
for cars without crowding.,
Rev. George R. Thompson and bride of
Kentville, N.S„ . are spending their
honeymoon at the home of the former's
parents in Goderich. Township and with
relatives in town.
Mr. L. Rousseau of the Rattenbury Hotel,
Clinton, has applied for a license to sell beer.
Clinton was defeated by the Scott McHale
team by the score of 9 to 2 in the first
exhibition lacrosse game of the season
staged at the Scott McHale playing field,
London on Friday night .last, before a large
crewd of'spect'ators. Competition was more
keen than the 'score would indicate, and it
was Clinton'sfirst floodlight engagement. It
is expected a return match will be played on
the local field before long.

The :•ural telephone has come to stay and.
is winning its way on account of its utility at
a small cost and because it opens up
desirable avenues of maintaining friendly
and frequent intercourse between neighbors
and friends. It will not be many years before
a home without a telephone will be a rarity.
The larger the circuit the more useful the
service and we belileve the price should be
made as low, as possible so that this 20th
century convenience may be within reach of
all.' You'll never be sorry for investing in a
good Hello! machine.
I can't see much,..difference between a
July bride and one of the justly celebrated
June brides.
To the Editor - To call a hotel by the name
of King Edward might be tolerated, but to
have placed over the door of a barroom, a
statue of His 'Majesty is simply an outrage.
To represent our King as inviting and
welcoming his -subjects into a place, where
they are partaking of that which is taking,
away their proper senses, destroying their
body and some causing misery and distress
in many of their homes, endangering life
and prosperity generally, is not in harmony
with what hestands for or would sanction.
Therefore I, as one of his loyal subjects,
(and I' am not alone) enter my solemn
protest against its being allowed.

What a sight - The toughest looking
caravan menagerie or what else it may be
called ever struck Clinton, was to be seen
here on Friday. It consisted of two families
of the dirtiest and ugliest looking
Frenchmen possible, who had four
performing bears, three monkeys, couple of
forlorn -looking 'ponies, and heaps of cheek.
On each side of a horse was swung a small
child, boneheaded and exposed to the sun, at
the back of the two women of the party was
carried another child, and a gipsy-waggon
afforded shelter for several others, after a
performance was given at any point by the
bears, all the children that could walk, were
sent away to beg, and they did it with a
vengeance.
best thing the tpeoplehere other re Goderich, and
the do
would be to anchor them about a mile
Af further west.
