4. -On Friday evening the activities got off to
an energetic start as Teams frora'Che four
corners of the township competed in the
Farmers Olympics.: These Olympics con-
silted of eight events -and ranged from bale
loading to a nnilk pail relay and included fun
events like' the egg toss and hot dog eating.
Organizers Keith Allen, Bruce Shillinglaw
and Laurence Taylor together with team
captains- Tony Van Bakel of The Harlock
Hotheads, Ed Salverda ,of The Kinburn
Cuties, Neil Salverda of The Summerhill
Smoothies and Bert Lyon of The Walker -
burn Wonders, put together a package that
was always entertaining and at times skill
testing.
Eventual winners were the west corner
represented by The Summerhill Smoothies
with The Wonders and The Cuties close
behind and 1114 -Hotheads a consistent four-
th. •
Mel Knox chairman of the Hallett Recrea-.
tion Committee presented a trophy to the
winners and thanked all who were involved.
Saturday morning saw soccer action as
four teams competed with the Nordiques
team conning out on top. Once again the win-
ning team received a trophy for their efforts
presented by Frank Szusz of the Bee. Com-
mittee.
In the afternoon there was something for
everyone as the four corners met in slo-pitch
action. This time Jim Dickson and his
Walkerburn Wonders took the trophy with
Doug Vincent's Smoothie frem Summerhill
second, Trudy MacDonald's Hotheads third
followed by the Kinburn. Cuties led by John
Jewitt.
Running concurrently with slo-pitch ac-
tion was a children's program put on by tha'
Londesboro Leo dabs supplemented by
clown face painting courtesy of d� : item`
Ltd. and highlighted by a mini tractor pull.

Sons.
There were three weight classes in the
under 50 pound class Kim Hummel was
first, Ken Shrllinglaw was second and third
was Frederick Datema. Billy Jain Scott took
first in the 50 to 75 pound class, followed by
Mike Preszcator and Chris Van Loo. In the
under 100 pound category Crystal Whyte led
the pack with Heng Lee coming second and
Brent Radford was third.
Prizes for first were trophies, second a
Hullett cap and third a Hullett crest were
presented by Murray Lyon on behalf of the
Hullett Recreation Committee.

The Londesboro Lions put forth 'their
.usual fine effort as they hosted the Pork
Barbecue at the hall between 5 ands p.m.
After supper an outdoor variety hour
featuring various mets and talents from
Hullett Townshipwas staged. • -
Following the concert- everyone returned
to the ball diamond for the consolation and
championship final as previously noted.
The Recreation Committee would litre to
express its thanks to all who participated
and its special appreciation to those who
organized the activities and kept eeverything
running smoothly, and would like to see
everyone back next year for the 3rd annual
Hullett Days.
Shuffleboard was played in school..Win-
ners were first Lorne Honking and Tom
Allen; 2nd, Audrey Thompson and Les
Reid; 3rd, Watson Reid and Jim McEwing.
The event was conducted by Lorne flunking
Bob Thompson and Jim McEwing.
ISI entertain Happy Gang senior citizen club

LONDESBORO - The WI Cultural Affairs
meeting was held on July 11 and the Happy
Gang Seniors were the special guests.
Fourteen WI members and 19 visitors were
present.
WI President Helen Lawson was in charge
of the meeting. She thanked everyone for
their help at the Huronview Tea and the
Hullett School Grade 8 graduation banquet.
In the absence of Secretary -Treasurer
Doreen Carter, assistant Alice Buchanan
gave the reports from the previous meeting.
It was noted that the -WI Grade 8 award in
home economics w nt to Crystal Whyte,
while Mark Wallace won the award for
outstanding effort and co-operation.
Correspondence included thank you notes
from Helen Kolkman for a 4-H gift and from
the Clinton Public Hospital.
The Lady Diana Nursery in Vanastra
request financial support and the WI agreed
to make a $25 donation. A donation will also
be given to Ray and Brenda Biesinger and
family, to help cover losses from a recent
fire.
Mrs. Lawson presented a gift to Isabel
Colson honoring her and Art's 45th wedding
anniversary.
Ramona Jamieson introduced the guest
speaker, Ruth Shaddick. She spoke on her
tour of Australia, New Zealand and Tahiti.
For the August meeting, WI members will
attend a Huron County Playhouse matinee
of the muscial, Ain't Misbehavin'. The date
is August 30 and tickets are $7.50 each.

VARNA — Several high school students in
the Varna area are to be congratulated for
earning awards in their studies. Sherry
Chuter won a Grade 12 Physical and Health
Education award; Dale Reid - Grade 10
English award; Julie Webster - Grade 9
Commercial- and Jacqui Taylor - Grade 11
Commercial. •
The Mitchell Cardinals defeated Zurich
Eagles 11 -3 in the final game of the Stanley
Steamers slo-pitch tournament on the
weekend to take the "A" championship.

the MVP award.
Twin City Bombers (Staffa and Cromar-
ty) won 24 - 2 over Crediton Tigers to take
the "B" championship.

In the "B" competition on Sunday, Cen-
tralia ' Cowboys defeated Centralia
Marauders; Crediton Tigers over the
Lakers in a close 15-13; Twin City Bombers
over Crediton Cowboys 17-4. The Bombers
immediately went into the final game in the.
B category with Crediton Tigers, defeating
them 24-2.
An the A competition, Zurich Eagles :
'defeated Zurich Cobras; Mitchell Cardinals
over Stanley Steamers 15-3; Eagles put out
last year's winners, Bayfield Knighthawks
10-1, then were defeated by the heavy hitting
and' strong fielding of Mitchell Cardinals.
With rain threatening all afternoon,
dveryone was grateful that it held of til
the tournament was over.
The Steamers and their wives did a good
job of feeding the crowd, and the Hayters at
the booth were kept busy selling pop and
other treats.
One of the village gardens, received con-
siderable damage Friday night, with
vegetables pulled and trampled. The
childrenresponsible were probably surpris-
ed by the owner of another garden who hap-
pened to go out to the back yard before they
had time to get into much.
