A Nannow .b)SCAPTS.— What might have been a fatal accident turned out to be an excitine experience at the Presbyterian S. S. picnic last Friday. The lake was too rough to use the row boats on it, and Dr. Kinsman, jr., was successfully guiding one into the more quiet water of the river, whenajust as he Vita% in the most turbulent part, the oarlock broke. A large breaker then threw the boat into the trough also sweeping away an oar. The heavy river current then carried him out on the lake. The Dr. used his remaining oar to great advantage, sometimes waving ib aloft as a signal and again guiding the boat therewith. Happily yotreg man, Hannon. Gill, noticed the distressed boatman and set out speedily for his relief. He found the boat filled with water and the Dr, hi gocarapirits considering his unpleasant position. The Dr, is an excellent swimmer, but the coldness of the Water on account of the heavy rains throws the swimmer in the danger of receiving cramps.
