ownship spread Sesquicentennial news
By Elaine Townshend
At the June meeting of the Goderich
Township 1.5.0 committee, Chairman Gerry
Ginn presented the bumper stickers that are
being distributed to township residents to
publicize the upcoming sesquicentennial
year. -
Residents can spread the message that
1985 is going to be a very special year in
-Goderich Township simply by attaching the
stickers to their cars, trucks, vans,
'campers. Who knows how far the message
will travel this summer!
Dave Hemingway, Chairman , of the
publicity committee, announced that
placemats are being designed and will be
offered to area restaurants and halls as
another means of reminding local people
and visitors of the 150th anniversary.
Stan McIllwain reported that the Goderich
Township 1-5-0 1 sign had appeared in
Clinton's Klompen Feest and Spring Fair
parades, and was also part of a Bicentennial
Parade in Goderich. Carol Penhale
volunteered to enter the sign in Hensell's
Centennial parade. A suggestion was made
to try to find an unique tractor to enter in
future parades along with the sign.
Bill Lobb, head of the 1-5.0 parade
committee, mentioned that his team is
ready to swing into action when the time
comes to organize Goderich Township's own
parade during the sesquicentennial
celebration weekend - July 17 to 21, 1985.
Chairperson of the history committee,
Alison Lobb, reported the history book
information had been delivered to the
printer. "Township of Goderich History,
Vol. I" will be available by December 1,
1984.
Treasurer Bev Orr, who is handling book
orders, noted that 130 copies have been sold.
Anyone who resides or owns land in
Goderich Township in 1984 may have their
names listed among'. the patrons of the
history book, if they order their copy before
September 1, 1984. Until December i, 1984,
the cost will be only $20 per copy. After
December 1, 1984, the cost will be $25 - still a
bargain for a book that will become a family
keepsake, Anyone who wishes to purchase a
book, should contact Mrs. Charles Orr, R.R,
2- Goderich,..N7A3X8, 524-7032:
' In 1985, a . second book, focusing on.
township families, will be released. Mrs,
Donald Lobb, R.R.. 2 Clinton, NOM 1L0,1482-
7167, is gathering material for VoLi II.
Anyone who would like to submit a brief .
history of their family, must have - the
information to her by the fall of 1984.
Chairman Ginn urged committee
members to spread the word that anyone
who would like to be involved in planning
Goderich Township's 1-5-0 celebrations,
including sporting activities,. is welcome.
Meetings are held on the second Wednesday
of -every . month vat 8:30 p.m. in Goderich
Township Community Centre, Holmesville.
Next meeting is July 11.
