Hospital hopes to expand
SEAFORTH - The Seaforth Community
Hospital is hoping to expand its out-patient
services. This will be done if the Ministry of
Health approves the proposal and helps fund
the $1,750,000 addition.
The expansion project will include a 2,500
mental health centre and 6,000 square feet
for a medical centre.
The hospital board is hoping that the
ministry will fund two-thirds of the project.
About $500,000 will have to be raised locally.
The expansion plan was initialized after
the board recognized a change in treatment.

the hospital as in -patients.
At the same time the hospital has noticed
a significant decrease in the number of
births at the Seaforth hospital. Last year
there were about 60 births and the board
feels that the maternity ward can be better
utilized.
Hospital administrator Gord McKenzie
noted that the 41 -bed hospital is, "not losing
beds, but we're giving better patient
care....Out-patient care is the thrust of
health care. We do a lot of day surgery and
can't justify adding beds."
