A tea was held in Blyth Public School at
which time Donna Lynn Armstrong and

Grade 3-4 students, presented Mrs. Merrill
with a gift. A `Break Dance" routine was

News and notes
The Daily Vacation Bible School will be
held at the Christian Reformed Church from
July 9-20 at 9 a.m. to 11:30.
The first Water Carnival of The Blyth
Brownies and Girl Guides was held last
Saturday at the Blyth Lions Park. The Clin-
ton Brownies and Girl Guides were guests.
The leaders in charge were Brenda
McDonald, Mrs. Keith Roulston, Mrs.
Henry Rouw, Mrs. Alex Blair and Mrs. John
Stadelmann.
About 50 girls took part in the afternoon
program. Lunch of hot dogs, cup cakes and
Freshie was served.

Cecil Wheeler
Cecil Wilkinson? Wheeler of Blyth died
June 20 at the. home of his dal(1(tt+el. 111.
London,
Mr. Wheeler was the 1orcner Reeve of
Morris Township and farmed near • his
parents' hornestead on the fourth line until
moving to Blyth in 1948.
He was predeceased in 1929 by_bis wife
Edna Scandrett of Belgrave, mother of his
three surviving daughters: Mrs. Bern
(Nora) Crellin of London, Mrs. Laurence
(Ruth) Day4, of Brampton and Mrs. Bert
(Mary) Turnr of Abbotsford, B.C.
He is also survived by nine grandchildren

Mr. Wheeler was predeceased by .wives
Laura Robinson of East Wawanosh
Township and Georgia Drew of Fort Wayne,,
Indiana, He was also predeceased by three
sisters and four brothers.
Funeral services were held in Belgrave
United Church on June 23 with Rev. John
Roberts officiating. Interment was in
Braddon Cemetery in Belgrave.
Pallbearers were Charles Higgins, Ross
Anderson, Clarence Yuill, Bob Grashy,
Douglas Crellin and Bob Davis.
Flower bearers were Paul Crellin and
,Margaret TerHart.
4-H judge cow qualities
The third meeting of the Hallrice 4 -FT,
Dairy Calf Club was held at Ken Rarnsey's
on May 16.
Bill Murvey and Doug Dan were represen-
ting the United Breeders. The minutes were
read and Ken Ramsey was introduced and
he told about his operation. Doug Dan ex-
plained about UniMating.
Members were assigned to cows and
found their faults and then matched them up
with bulls to correct the faults. Doug Dan
then put it through a computer to see how
well everyone did.
They judged three year old cows and
mature cows. Lisa Boonstoppel, Brian
Wiersma, Tom Franken, Audrey Bos,
Joanne Wiersma and Robert Wilts gave
reasons. Doug Dan was the official judge in
both classes. The lesson was on "Sire Selec-
tion".
A film on Safety was shown. Audrey Bos
thanked Doug Dan and Bill Murvey foc_com-
ing.
The 4th meeting of the Dairy Club was
held at Hans Boonstoppel's on June 6. We
started the meeting with the pledge.
Karen Rodman told of important days in-
cluding (Wonderland - July 20; Reach For
the Top - end of August; Demonstration
Competitions - July 16; Silver Dollar Com-
petition - All through summer. )
Jim Hallahan told about Designing a
Cover Page for the 4-H Newsletter and the
Gate Sign Competition.
Heather Fenton spoke on the Junior
Leader meeting. Everyone was reminded to
be the Car Wash and Bake Sale on July 7
in Blyth.
Cathy and Jeannette Vander -Veen did a
skit to tell about Dairy Herd Improvement
Program. The lesson was about Production
Records. Cathy and Jeannette asked clues:-

Members were told that the next meeting
is at Frank Hallahan's on July 4. - by Anita

Hullett Grade 8 students honored at graduation night

LONDESBORO - The Grade 8 graduation
for Hullett Central School was held on June
22. The evening began with supper, served
by the WI, for 31 graduates and their
parents.
The graduation , ceremony • and
entertainment program was held
afterwards. The Grade 8 choir performed
and Barb Bosman.. accompanied at the
piano. Bryan Howatt played a guitar solo
and a piano duet was performed by Lisa
Bosman and Lori Livermore.
Awards presentations included: history
and geography, presented by Beth Knox of
the• Happy Gang Seniors, to Jamie Cook;
French award, from 8. Griffin of the Happy
Gang, to Deanna Lyon; math award, by W.
Millson, to Kelly Vodden; English award;,
from Donna Gibbings of the Summerhill
Club, to Terry ' Shepherd; penmanship
award from Angus MacLennan, to Lori
Livermore.
Outstanding girl athlete, Lori Bromley
earned the Ted Pickett award, presented by
John Jewitt. Outstanding boy athlete, Brian
Whyte, earned an award presented by D.
Bennett. The WI home economics and
industrial awarts award, given by Helen
Lawson, went to Crystal Whyte and Mark
Wallace; outstanding effort and co-
operation award, from Mr. and Mrs. Jack
Lee, went to Fred .'Peel; outstanding
• graduate, from Lion Joe flunking, to Susan
Govenlock and by Lillian Hallam to Michael
Radford.
Julie Shaddick introduced the guest
speaker, Paul Carroll. Appreciation was
given; by Lisa Bosman. Stephen. Kennedy
introduced the valedictorian,, Brad Millson.
Lori Livermore played the piano for closing
ceremonies.
Cheerio Club
On June 20 the Cheerio Club met at the
home of ' Laura Lyon and Stella Adams
conducted the meeting.
Dora Shobbrook gave the report from the
last meeting. Ida Durnin read a letter of
thanks from Lois Andrews. Readings were
given by Dora Shobbrook and Stella Adams.
The next meeting will be held in July at
the home of Tri Duizer. Group two will be in
charge.
• . Sunday School service
' The promotion and awards service was
held at Londesboro United Church .on June
24.
Greeters were Jack and Helen Lee and
ushers were Larry Gross, Larry Hoggart,
Bruce ,Penfaundand Melvin Bergsma. The
service was conducted by Nick, Whyte and
Colin Swan.
Diplomas were awarded to' Christopher
Knox, : Laura Jane Swan, Karen Trick,
Angela Konarski, Crystal and' Cha$otte
Wilts, Benjamin Franklin and Earl Bradley
Thomson and Shannon Scott.
Second year seals went to Tanya
Kennedy, Jennie Konsarksi, Lawrence,
Grant, Richard, Melvin, Karen, Darrell and
Sharon,. Bergsma, Elizabeth Swan and
Theresa Overboe. Third year seals went to
Jason Konarski and Jennie Szusz. .
Fourth year awards were given to Christy
Scott, Kerry Kennedy, Rhonda Howatt,
Joanne, Dennis, Gerben and Janet Wilts.
Five year recipients were Kent and Kevin
Shillinglaw, Todd and Scott Shaddick, Tim
Lyons and Billy Jim Scott.
Receiving six year awards were Melanie
and Theresa Knox, Brent Howatt, Kevin
Wright and Kerry Szusz. Seven year awards
went to Kelly Bosman and Sara Lyons while
eight year seals went to Bryan Howatt and
Denise Hulley.
Nine year presentations went to Karen
Wrightm Shannon Duizer, Denise Gross,
Brent Radford, .Murray Whyte and Paul
Jewitt. Ten year awards went to Suzanne
Tamblyn, Lisa Bosman, Lori Bromley,
Michael Radford while Crystal and Brian
Whyte received 11 year awards. •
Sunday School promotions included:

The congregation was reminded that .the
farewell dance for the Swans will be held on
June 30, at the Hullett School, starting at 8
p.m.
The congregational picnic will be held
July 1 at the Hardy's home. Layman's
Sunday will be held July 8 and the induction
service for Rev. Dave Snyher.will be Julyy8
at 8 p.m.

President Brenda Radford led the June 18
meeting of the Londesboro UCW.
The meeting opened with a flute solo
played by Jennifer . Sottiaux and
accompanied by Darlene Hulley on the
piano.
Guest speaker, Janet Clark of Wingham,
talked about coping with the terminally ill
and death in the family,.

A farewell address was read to Colin and
Jane Swan, by Audrey Thompson. The
Swans were presented with a gift from the
UCW by Clara Riley. Mr. Swan thanked
everyone for the friendship and co-operation
while he ministered at Londesboro United
Church.
In the UCW business, thank you notes
were received from Laura Lyons, Annie
Cunningham, from the Foster Child, the
Cartwright family and Barbara Livermore
and Jim Neilans.
Treasurer Margaret Good reported a
bank balance 'of $2;769 and members agreed
to put $2,000 in the savings account.
Helen Lee reported that one large quilt is ,
being made and two crib quilts are ordered.
Upcoming events include the UCW
meeting, An July 16 at Margaret Whyte's'
and Vacation Bible School on July 23: The
ham supper 1985 date was set for April 25.
For the program Gail Lear played the
piano and readings were given by . Betty
Hulleyand Margaret Good.
People report
Ken Hulley spent the past week in
Stratford General Hospital. Olive D'equitte
underwent,. surgery . in Clinton Public
Hospital on Friday. Emerson Hesk was
transferred . from Clinton to St. Joseph's •
Hospital, London.
Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Wood were guests on
Friday at the • wedding of their
granddaughter Janet Wood and Douglas
Gudwer in the Wingham United Church. The
reception was held in Teeswater.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Thompson visited with
his aunt Mrs. Annette Thompson ' in
Clarksburg.,
