Clinton policemen assisted in locating two
little children who wandered' away from
their homes on Monday. Chief H. R.
Thompson and Mrs. D. Linford, of Issac
otreet, searched for over an hour in the
vicinity of the Hudie planing mill before
they found them. A neighbor said he saw
two-year-old Mark going the other way.
They found him near the John Lavis house
on Joseph Street playing with other
children.
The 14 -year-old boy, charged as a Juvenile
delinquent in the death of Lynne Harper, 12,
was remanded in custody for a second time
last Thursday afternoon when he appeared
in juvenile court at Goderich before Judge
Dudley E. Holmes.

A jolly party of nurses gathered at the
home of Wesley Marquis, Base Line, on
Monday evening June 25th, to wish Miss
Myrtle Trewartha, Reg. N., a pleasant and
sage trip abroad this summer. Miss
Trewartha is leaving Clinton on Friday and
will be especially missed by nursing friends.
Her cheerful disposition and skill in her
profession has won her many friends among
her patients and many have real cause to
think of her with respect and gratitude.
A young Clinton man lost a. billfold last
week containing a sum of money,. some,
cheques, etc., and advertised it in The News -
Record and also in the Goderich Signal Star.
The other day the cheques °and papers •
contained in the fold were, found pinned
together in one of the Goderich letter boxes
and the postmaster sent the same onto the
Clinton postmaster so they were returned to
the owner. The fold and money were
missing. Evidently the temptation to keep
the cash and the leather fold was too much
for the finder.

Engine Broke Down - The engine on the
evening train of the L.H. & B. broke down at
Ilderton and a new engine had to be sent
from London to bring the train through. It
arrived in Clinton at 8:30,
Last week Ford and McLeod moved to
their new shop on Isaac Street and are now
settled down doing business. They have a
fine stand.
Close call - Wednesday morning at the
home of James Steep, had a close call for a
fire. A box of matches which was on the
window .became heated and the curtains
caught fire. No other damage was done as
Mr. Steep was in the room and pulled the
curtains down.

Tall Grain - A stalk of full headed barley
measuring four feet, was left here on
Monday, by W. Sterling, of Goderich
Township. Mr. A. Lawson, of Hulled,
brought in a stock of oats measuring 29
inches, which had been sown only five weeks
before.
A Hot Week - The weather of the past few
days has been excessively warm, the
mercury ranging between 80 and 90 degrees
in the shade every day. Each day appears to
be hotter than its predecessor, and one
almost wishes it were the fashion to wear
the airy garment of our first parents - the fig
leaf.
Fined - On thursday evening a man named
Jas. Clark went into the meeting of the army
under the influence of liquor, and refused to
keep quiet when requested to do so. He was
arrested and subsequently appeared before
Mr. Fisher, J.P. who properly fined him $5
and costs for his disturbance. A number of
others who are - in the habit of making
disturbances at these meetings should take
a warning from this, or they may be
simile:* treated. The army pay for the hall
and can demand that as good order be kept
there as in a church.
Infant baptisms
On Sunday, June 17, at St. Andrew's
Presbyterian Church, Clinton, Melissa
Helen, daughter of Wesley and Mary Ann
Chambers and Jessica Dawn, daughter of
Donald and Sandra Petteplace were receiv-
ed into the fellowship of the Church through
' the Sacrament of Baptism.
