nual Sports.- Banquet organized by the.
School's Athletic Association,
s event. is an occasion to honor the
athletes who excelled in their respective
areas over the 83-64 season. As the various
coaches described the year's athletic
highlights, the athletes and semi -athletes
reflected on personal exploits. For some the
year was more positive than it was for
others; but all should be satisfied if they
• know that -they gave their full effort.
This year's banquet was more
entertaining than usual; due mainly to the
presence of Father Joe Nelligan who buoyed
everyone with his spirit, made everyone
laugh and made all think about what- sport

The banquet was closed by Mr. Wooden
who echoed the positive air of- the evening
and left everyone with a feeling of pride
what they accomplished and a sense of
future glories to come. Special thanks to
Rick Aylsworth and the cafeteria staff for
providing the food at this special event.
Huron canoeists win Chatham race
Huron County canoeists won three firsts
and two seconds in a 50 mile race along the
Thames River from Big Bend Conservation
Area to Chatham on Sunday, May 20. The
Thames marathon canoe race was
sponsored by the Chatham Canoe' Club and
called the longest one -day race in Ontario.
Winners of the open class were Rene
Boogemans, of Hensall and Ted Cowan, of
Brussels while second place went to Rick
Kloss, of Brucefield and Don Stoneman of
Toronto. In the senior men's class, Dick
Kloss and 13 -year-old Chris McDonald, both
of Brucefield came first and Rob McLellan
and Len Healy, both of Brucefield came

were Dana Kloss and Kim Novak, both of
Brucefield_
A seven mile race for junior canoeists on
Monday resulted in three firsts, two seconds
and one third for Huron County canoeists.
Ted and Laurie Cowan, both of Brussels
came first in the junior men's race while
Rob McLellan and Len Healy, both of
Brucefield came in second.
The junior ladies' class was won by Dana
Kloss and Robin Novak, both of Brucefield
with second place going to Karen Cowan, of
Brucefield and Tricia Hawkins, Of
Chatham.
Winners of the bantam class were Raquel
Bunn, of Brucefield and Barbara Hawkins,
of Chatham and third place winners were
Neil Dockstader, of Goderich and Chris
McDonald, of Brucefield.
Three-wheelers race at Varna
Motocross and three-wheeler riders from
across Midwestern Ontario converged on
Hully Gully for regular Saturday House
League racing and found excellent track
conditions and beautiful weather combined
to offer excellent competition.
The track was made ready for the CMA
sanctioned event the next day, and some of
the preparations for the upcoming Labatt's
Expert Motocross Nationals on June 17 were
already in place, so riders found the track at
the best it's been. More work going on up un-
til the Canadian National Championship will
assure even better conditions for the next
House League event scheduled for June 9.
