Walkerburns help Foster Child

The Walkerburn Club members were
guests at the home of Mrs. Lloyd McClin-
chey on May 29 at 2 p.m. The president, Mrs.
Lloyd Penfound opened the meeting with a
reading,
The secretary, Mrs. Elliott Lapp and the
treasurer, Mrs. Garth McClinchey gave
their reports. It was ,announced that the
foster child is paid up to the end of May and
it was decided to immediately forward the
next payment. The roll call was answered
by 15 members giving a donation for the
foster child.
The draw prize, chosen by little Floyd
Wright, was won by his mother, Mrs. A.
• Wright. •
Mrs. Keith Lapp invited the club to her
home for the next meeting. Note change of
date to Thursday, June 21. Mrs. Joe Verwey
and Mrs. Marion Hunking will be in charge
of the lunch and. Mrs. Keith Lapp and Mrs.
Bernice Norman will be in charge of the pro-
gram. All members are requested to bring
scraps of wool and a dull needle to the next
meeting. '
In Londesboro
The date has been set for the 65th picnic
reunion August 18 at Ball's Grove, weather
permitting and the Hullett Township Cen-
tral School otherwise.
A successful miscellaneous sale was held
with Mrs. Joe Verwey, the capable auc-
tioneer.
Social News
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Baechler spent last
weekend in Cannington where they were
guests at the 40th anniversary celebration
for Tom and Harriet Cantwell at the Royal
Canadian Legion.
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Haggitt attended the
Youngblut reunion last Saturday heldat the
home of Mrs. Rita Brown in Goderich.
Mrs. Art Lefebre is home after being a pa-
tient in Wingham Hospital.
Mrs. Lillian Letherland visited last week
for a few days at Vanastra with her
daughter Mrs. June Bolger and family.
Mrs. Donald Haines and Mrs. Marjorie
McDougall attended • the Westminster
weekend in London last weekend.
Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Weston of Toronto
visited the past weekend with her mother,
Mrs. Mary Rollinson and brother, Murray
Rollinson.
Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Anderson and Mr.
and Mrs. Greg Park. visited last weekend
with their son and brother, William Ander-
son at -Newmarket.
The Auburn Horticultural Society will
hold its June meeting on Wednesday, June
13 at 8 p.rn. Everyone is welcome.
Mrs. Catherine Jackson returned home on
Monday after being a patient in Clinton
Public Hospital for a few weeks.
Mr. and Mrs. George Collins and
Jonathan entertained members of their
•family last Sunday to a barbecue. Those
present were Mr. and Mrs. Jim Collins,
Lorie and Linda of Mitchell, Dave Collins
and daughters, Colleen and Valerie, and
Debbie Funston and Samantha of Huron
Park, Mr.. and Mrs. John Stadelmann,
Christine, Rhonda and Jennifer of Blyth and
Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock.
Mr. and Mrs. 'Randy Maize of Dungannon,
Paul Helesic and Kelly O'Neill of Goderich
were visitors last week with their grand-
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Rodger. •
Cheerios donate $15 to: flow'ers of Hopes

two visitors met at the home of Edythe
Beacom on June 1.
Thanks was expressed from Beth Knox
and Laura Lyon for .get well cards they
received.

For the program, a reading was given by
Vi Burns. A. contest, led by Mrs. Knox, was
won byVietta Hoggart. Another, conducted
by Miss Beacom was 'won by Dora
Shobbrook. The draw, donated by .Margaret
..Good,, was won by Miss Beacom. Lunch was
served by Miss Beacom, Mrs. Knox and
Mrs. Burns.

Six Explorers earn special ache verrxent awards
The Explorers meet the first and third
Thursday of each month. The group had 19
members and 11 of them had perfect atten-
dance.
Six girls have qualified for special awards
because they have completed all the re-
quired projects including wearing a com-
plete uniform to every meeting, perfect at-
tendance, a complete book with an account
of our expeditions and a scripture book.
Fourteen had complete books, 12 had
scripture books, eight had uniforms and 11
had perfect attendance. However, only six
had them all. They are: Nicole Richmond,
Christine Stadelanann, Jane Whitmore, Kel-
ly Cook, Leah Richmond and Lisa Brownley.
The following giris are graduating frons
Explorers. There are four of these girls who
have had perfect attendance for all three
years. They are: Sandra Hessels, Karrie
McClinchey, Nicole Richmond and
Christine Stadelwnann.
The leaders are Susan Howson and Emily
Philips.
Arm wrestlers show their stuff
The second annual arm wrestling
tournament was held at the Blyth Inn on
June 2.
Adrian Vanden Heuval and Ross Patton
were the top champions of the day. Vanden
Heuval took second place in the middle
weight division and then went on' to top the
heavy weight category. Patton was first in
the middle weight divison and second in the
light weight class.
Ken Browr, was second in the heavy
weight and Jerry Wilson was third. Rob
Gibson took third place in the middle weight
class. In the light weight class, Steve
Remsyer was first and Larry Allin took
third place.
In the ladies' open weight class, first place
went to Jilda Anderson. The second place
finisher was Marian Vanden Heuval and
third was Kim Leslie.
Arm wrestling competition will continue
in Hensall on June 30 and in Bayfield on
August 4.
United Church honors Messengers
LONDESBORO - At the United Church
service on Sunday, the Messengers and their
leaders received special recognition.
The 12 Messengers received special cards
and Colin Swan thanked Jane and Connie
Hoggart for their excellent leadership.
The Sunday morning congregation was
greeted by Gordon " Shobbrook and Laura
Scott. Ushers were Karen Armstrong, John
Hoggart, Dave Overboe and Elgin
Penf ound.
Mr. Swan conducted the service. He
announced that the communion service will
be held in July.
The Londesboro UCW have been invited to
Winthrop on June 6. The Blyth Cemetery
Memorial Service will be held on June 10 at
p.m. The congregational service and•picnic
will be held at theHardy residence on J,:ly 1.
Nick Whyte announced that a farewell
party and dance will be held for the Swans at
Hullett Central School on June 30.

The third meeting of the 4-H Gardening
Club was held May 30 at Eunice Emke's.
Annuals, perennials, biennials, and bulbs.
This was one of the topics mentioned at the
meeting of the Blyth 4-11 Fresh Veggies.
Caring for the garden and care of garden
tools, how to transplant, water and install
plant supports properly was also covered.
How to classify weeds as to whether they
are annuals, perennials and biennials was
another topic.
Plans for an outing were finalized. The
trip will be June 16, and will take in several
of the area greenhouses.
The next meeting is to be held June 8th at
Eunice Emke's residence. -Press Reporter
