(Wendy Somerville photo) Rector dedicates new hymn books By Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse BELGRAVE + A special service was held at Trinity Anglican Church Belgrave on Sunday afternoon when new hymn books were dedicated by the rector, Rev. Douglas Madge, in memory of Nora Van Camp. The choir under the direction of organist Mrs. Clare Van Camp, sang three anthems. A floral arrangement was placed in memory of Mr. and Mrs. William Van Camp by their family. Those attending from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. John Evans of Sarnia, Mr. and Mrs. Leen Zevenbergen and boys of 'Hep- worth, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Johnston of Wingham, Mrs. Norma Davidson and Mary of . Glencoe and Mrs. Kay Harris of Teeswater. Anniversary Service Calvin -Brick United Church was decorated with lilacs, tulips and blossoms for their Sunday morning anniversary ser- vice. Rev. John G. Roberts conducted the ser- vice. William A. Andrews, Professor in En- vironmental Studies at Toronto University, was guest speaker. In his address Professor Andrews spoke on scientific hypotheses in relation to cer- tain religious phenomena. Professor An- drews used a scientific formula which pro- vided interpretation of the scriptures. Mrs. Norman Coultes played the organ and Mrs. George McGee played the piano. the Junior Choir sang and four girls, Angela Coultes, Joanne Olson, Cathy and Maryon Dow also sang. • People report Mrs. Donald Stonehouse of Guelph called on her . cousins Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse on Thursday. United news The Rev. Dr. Gordon of Brussels was in charge of the worship service Sunday morn- ing at Duff's United Church. The Rev. Charles A. Sivan attended the' London Con- ference in St. Thomas from May 24 - 27. The last meeting until fall of the official board will meet Sunday evening June 3 at the Manse. Special music during the morn- ing worship was supplied by organist Margery Huether at the piano; Phyllis Mit- chell with the violin and Wat Webster with his harmonica. In the announcements the congregation was reminded of Saturday, June 9'the garage and bake sale and Holy Communion on June 10. They returned home for the summer months to their cottage at Lake Mississauga. A social evening is being planned for newlyweds, Bill and Hermine Lutz in the Auburn Community Memorial Hall on June 9 to honour them on their recent marriage. Ladies are asked to bring sandwiches. Everyone is welcome. Cemetery Board Due to the recent death of Joe Postill who was chairman of the Ball's Cemetery Board, a meeting -was called last week when some new trustees were added to the Board. Elected chairman was Elliott Lapp. Other members are Tom Jardin, Dennis Pen - found, Charles Adams, Donald Sprung and Gordon Dobie. Ernest Durnin was again named superintendent and Mrs. Bess Slater was reappointed secretary -treasurer. It was necessary, because of rising costs, to raise the price of cemetery plots and the charge for grave openings. Plans were made for the annual memorial service to be held on July 1, on the church grounds, Hullett Township. The service will be in the charge of Knox United Church with Gary Shuttleworth officiating. Lions Club The Auburn and District Lions Club held their May bingo last Friday evening in the Auburn Community Memorial Hall, Win- ners of regular games were Mrs. Connie Black, Mrs. Irene Dickey, Mrs. Pat Neagle, Verne Welsh, Mrs. Irene Dickey, Mrs. Frances Clark, Mrs, Jewel Plunkett, Mrs. Lynn Chamney, Gordon Dobie, Mrs. Laura May Chaniney, Mrs. Jewell Plunkett, Mrs. Lois Haines, Mrs. Pat Naegle, Mrs. Eppie Lawrence, and Mrs. Elaine Craig. Social News Mrs. Donald Kai of Oakville entertained friends in Clinton Public Hospital last Sun- day afternoon on the occasion of her mother, Mrs. Catherine Jackson's eighty-fifth birth- day. Mrs. Jackson wore a pink rose corsage, the gift of her daughter and was able to be up and enjoy her guests. Mrs. Kai served birthday cake and tea. Mrs. Jackson has been a patient for several weeks in the Clinton Hospital. UCW The May meeting of the Knox United Church Women was the annual church cleaning and many hands were busy. Church News Gary Shuttleworth was absent from his pulpit last Sunday morning as he was atten- ding the London Conference of the United Church in Canada held in St. Thomas. The Reverend Gordon Pickell of Goderich took the service and spoke on the inspiring message based on the theme, The Four Dimensions of Christian Living. The senior choir sang the anthem, God's Great Plan. Dana Bean and. Murray Rollinson were the ushers and Mrs. M. Bakker and Lori Millian supervised the junior congregation. Appreciation was expressed to all who had helped with the annual spring house- cleaning at the church. Lucknow Sales Barn sold LUCKNOW - A public aucton on May 16 sold the Lucknow Community Sales Barn to Gordon H. Brindley of Dungannon. The barn was sold following the death of owner Robert McIntosh in April, Lucknow Community Sales, a weekly Wednesday livestock auction, has become widely known, since it began .operation in 1949 by the late John M. McIntosh of Paramount. Robert McIntosh had operated the business since the death of his father in 1953. He built a new sales barn west of Caledonian Park on Highway 86 in June, 1958.
