Following his stint with the Collegiates, Fred played for two or three other bands before joining the Crescendos. From there he teamed up with The Bluetones, a band made up of guys from the St. Thomas and Clinton area. Following the disbanding of the Bluetones in 19,77, Fred and a few of the other members started a band ,called Country. Country was his last band since Whiskey Jack Music Company. "It's an enjoyable business to be in," Fred said. Jim Nott, the band's lead guitar player, can remember when his grandmother taught him how to play the harmonica. From the harmonica he took piano lessons. Despite his ability to play the piano and harmonica, he still prefers the guitar. Jim broke into the music business around 1957, when he teamed up with Dwayne Tinney. The two played for Junior Farmer dances. "I just love music. I've always wanted to play in a band but I was always too shy. I still get nervous," Jim said. Jim was also a member of the Crescendos and freelanced on guitar for other bands who needed him. "You learn a lot from playing in different bands," Jim explained. Glenn Nott, the band's bass guitar player and sound man returned to Huron County in 1974 after working for IBM computers in Toronto. His expertise in sound equipment makes him a valuable asset to the band. Throughout his childhood Glenn took lessons in piano and accordian. He, like many of the other band members, got involved in music in his high school days. The first major band he played for was also the Crescendos. In 1975, Glen joined the group Country. "My biggest thrill in the music business was helping Jim Medd cut an album," Glenn said. The album, Country. Comfort, was recorded in Wingham during the summer of 1980. Glenn said he was involved with playing bass and contributing advice for the album. When asked if Whiskey Jack Music Company had ever considered cutting an album, Glenn explained, "We've talked about it, but time is a big factor. It's very time consuming to cut an album." Lead singer Ed .Scruton is a self- taught guitar player. At the age of 12, Ed picked up a guitar and taught himself a few chords. By the time he was 16, he became interested in the drums. Today as a member of Whiskey Jack Music Company he plays guitar andoccasionally plays a few numbers on the drums. "I've always looked forward to playing in a band with harmony and this band has a lot of good harmony," Ed said. Ed's first band was Country Music Man. Jim Nott was also in the band. From there he played for the Maitland Sun Downers, a group out of Goderich. For the next three years he was a part of the group Southern Comfort After retiring for three months, he joined Whiskey Jack. "Playing in a band is just a hobby and ,it still is," Ed said. The future of Whiskey Jack Music Company is wide open. According to Fred Lobb, the band has ruled out the possibility of expanding. He said that more time maybe devoted to tours. "Whiskey Jack Music Company will be around for a long time to come," Fred said. Be sure to take in the sounds of Whiskey Jack on May 19 at the grand finale to Klompen Feest.
