Benefit dance is well attended

WALTON - Tuesday night euchre was held
in the hall with eight tables in play.
Hostesses Margery Humphries, Ruth Art -
mann, Annie Reid and Margaret Craig were
in charge.
Winners were: high lady, Dorothy Daer;
low, Janie McEwing; high man, Emerson
Mitchell; low, Mel Jacklin; Most Lone
Hands, Rena Watt. There will be another
euchre night on May 8 and a Dessert Euchre
on May 22 at 7:00 p.m.

Mrs. Viola Kirkley attended the annual
Bluewater Regional meeting of the Arthritic
Society which was held in Walkerton on
Saturday. Others attending from this area-
. were Marlene Robertson; Seaforth; Wilma
Hemingway and .Margaret Tyermahi,.
Brussels.
Mr. and Mrs. Volker Hertlein and Crystal
of London and his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Fred Hertlein of Germany visited Friday
afternoon with Mrs. Ruth Thamer.
A large; crowd attended the benefit dance
for Don and Marilyn McDonald and family
Friday evening at the Brussels, Morris and
Grey Community Centre. The Ian Wilbee
Orchestra supplied music for dancing and
the Harmony Kings of Seaforth area enter-
tained with their splendid singing during the
lunch hour. The McDonalds had lost their
home and contents tb fire just recently.
Mrs. Viola Kirkley and Rev. and Mrc
Hazelwood of Brussels attended the 50th An;_
niversary open house Saturday evening in
Listowel for Mr. and Mrs. Orval Harrison
who are formerly of Moncrief.
Hullett school enjoy puppet show
Assembly
Friendship Ministries from St. Catharines
were at the school on April 25. The whole
school saw a puppet presentation at 1 p.m.
about character development. Grades 4 and
up saw another show at 1:30 in which pup-
pets represent human organs and warn of
dangers of drugs, tobacco, etc. Everyone
enjoyed it.
Mullett School Pins
The.Stud fiA , s finally. received
their flulle*Ger t ai' -pins with safety
clasps that they first decided to order about
a year ago: These quality, three-quarter
inch school crest pins sell for $2.50 each.
Any.parents or students who would like to
purchase pins may do so at the school office
almost anytime except onweekends and
,after 3:30 p.m.
Easter Activities
Last week the school had a number of
• Easter activities. One of them was the jelly-
bean hunt which all ,of the grades par-
ticipated in. For this event they hunted for
jellybeans and the one who gathered the
most won. an Easter Creme Egg. On April
19, the Caster Draw took place. The grand
prize was an Easter basket full of candy.
Tickets sold for 25 cents each and the pro-
ceeds went to the Students' Council. On.
Thursday after school from 3:30 - 5;00 p.m.
the Students' Council held a • dance for
Grades 6, 7. and 8. The chaperone was Mr.
Millson. They sold DOD and Easter Creme
Eggs. It was a very good Easter this year!
Kindergarten Registration
On April 26 there was Kindergarten
Registration in which the parents brought in
their children to be registered. .

Nancy Penfound greeted the congregation
to the Sunday morning service at the
I,ondesboro• United Church. Ushers were
Brenda Nesbitt, Connie Hoggart, Larry
Gross and David Whyte.
Colin .Swan conducted the service. He
announced that flowers in the church were
iced in memory of Phyllis Buurs,, who
died on April 25 and in memory of Jean
Caldwell who died on April 27.
The Messenger will meet on May 6.
Remember the and turkey supper, it
will beheld on ay 10.
Mr. Swan presented Bibles to Kelly
Bosman and Chris Kennedy, on graduating
from the Junior Congregation.
The junior teachers were June Fothergill,
Yvonne and Sherry Hoggart. Lisa Duizer
was the organist for the service.
A large number of relatives and friends
attended the memorial service in the church
at 2 p.m. for Jean Caldwell.
Local women die
Phyllis (McCool) Buurs of RR 1,
Londesboro died suddenly on April 25.
Sympathy is expressed to her husband John
Buurs and family, Mrs. Harry (Carol)
Thompson of RR 1, Staffa, Mrs. James
(Melanie) Fitton of Clinton, Kevin of
Stratford, Michelle and Chris at home and
five grandchildren. Funeral services were
held at the Ball and Falconer Funeral Home
in Clinton. Colin Swan officiated.
The community also learned on April 27
that Jean (Colquhoun) Caldwell, 65, of RR 1,
Londesboro died in Victoria Hospital in
London. She was predeceased by her
husband Leonard and is survived.by three
children, Mrs. Joe (Nancy) Marzano of
Schomberg, Mrs. Charles (Wendy)
Crawford of Kelowna B.C. and Alan of
Auburn. She is also survived by three
sisters, Mrs. George (Audrey) Hepburn of
Toronto, Mrs. Len -(Isabel) Theedom of
Clinton and Mrs. John (Margaret) Robinson
of Clinton. Also surviving are five brothers,
Don of St. Thomas, Murray of Owen Sound,
Tom of Clinton, Ross and Hugh of London.
She was predeceased, by three brothers,
Duncan, Laurie and Kenneth Colquhoun.

visiting for the last three weeks.
Attending the United Church Presbyterial
at Wingham on April 23 were Florence
Cartwright, Brenda Radford, Helen Lee,
Joan Whyte, Gail Lear, June Fothergill and
Betty Hulley.
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Allen returned home on
April 25 after spending two -and -a -half weeks
holidaying in Florida.
Mr. and Mrs. Orville Newby returned
home on April 26 after spending the past six
months at Fort Pierce, Florida.
June Fothergill would like to thank her
helpers Betty Moon, Nancy Allen and Karen
Johnston for their help in collecting for the
cancer drive. A total of $328 was received.
Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Fothergill attended a
dinner on Sunday in Listowel on the occasion
of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Colonel Marks'
59th anniversary.
.Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Allen of Mitchell
visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Tom
Allen and attended the memorial service for
Jean Caldwell.
Mr. Emerson Hesk returned home on
April 15 after spending the past four months
with his daughter Marjorie and Ron
MacLennan and Steven at Mount Hope.

Allen Shaddick were Mr. and Mrs. Dirk
Garlich of Kitchener, Mr. and Mrs. Jeff
Shaddick, Stephen and Danny of Brantford
and Miss Ruth Shaddick of Clinton. They
attended the memorial service for Jean
Caldwell.
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Josling of Goderich
visited on Sunday with Mrs. Joe Shaddick:

Summerhill dessert euchre party and bake

Alice Lukings of London spent a few days
at the manse with Colin and Jane Swan and
family.
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Radford of London
visited on Sunday with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Bob Thompson.
The barn of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Stewart,
on the sixth concession of Hullett Township
was destroyed by fire on Friday night. A
number of animals were lost in the fire.
The shuffleboard season ended on April
25. Winners were: ladies' high, Vietta
Hoggart; second high, Audrey Thompson;
low, Helen Lawson; second low, Margaret
Good; men's high, Tom Allen; second high,
Jim McEwing; low, Les Reid; second low,
Reg Lawson. Playoff winners were Vietta
Hoggart and Les Reid. Low scorers were
Audrey Thompson and Reg Lawson. For the
season the ladies' winner was Vietta
Hoggart and Tom Allen was the men's
winner.
The WI citizenship meeting will be held on
May 9 at 8 p.m. Jim Jamieson will present a
slide show.
Happy Gang Seniors
Thirty-three people attended the Happy
Gang Seniors meeting on April 24. President
Beth Knox opened the meeting and Isabel
Scanlon gave the secretary's report.
Margaret Taylor's treasurer's report
showed a balance of $107.82.
Members were reminded that a bus trip
has been planned for June. 19 to the Milton

Angus 'McLen tan; princlpal of Hullett
Central School, for inviting the seniors to
attend the school's spring concert rehearsal
Members voted to present a graduating
Grade 8 girl and boy with a proficiency
award in a subject approved by Mr.
McLennan.
The club's New Horizon grant, amounting
to $4,708 has been approved. The purchasing
committee in charge of looking after the
grant will be Margaret Taylor, Hazel. Reid
and Margaret Anderson.
The next meeting wit be held on May 23,
due to the Huronview tea and bake sale.
Verna Glazier gave a reading and the
lucky draw, donated by Clare Vincent, was
won by George Smith.
Cards were played and winners were:
ladies' high, Clara Riley; lone hands, Jean
Scott; low, Mabel McAdam; men's high,
Jack Armstrong; lone hands, Russell Good;
low, Les Reid.
